A WELL OF TRUTH
WHAT ABOUT HOPE? – PART FOUR

JESUS THE WELL OF TRUTH
Greetings dear friends and fellow believers and welcome back to our Sunday teachings titled; “A WELL OF TRUTH”. Today is round four in dealing with the Truth of ‘hope’. Before I move once again into our subject matter, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible. Thank you for sharing. You are a vital part of this Ministry and are taking your place (in part) in advancing the Kingdom of God. If you did not share you might ask yourself, why? We love you either way and there is nothing you can do about it.
A short time ago Donna and I were listening to one of our favorite teachers and the idea of Bible ‘hope’ was briefly discussed. As you may recall from the last three weeks, the Bible definition of the ‘hope’ I am referencing is a confident expectation or anticipation (Greek Strong’s Number 1680). Confident in who, in what? God, the Word of God! As I was thinking about this, before starting to write I had the following thought: gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12 & 14) are tools to build the Kingdom but faith, love, and hope are spiritual laws that govern those gifts. Spiritual law is as certain to manifest as physical laws when triggered. But, do we know how to trigger these laws? Now, back to the teacher and the teaching when hope was briefly mentioned. The teacher went on to make the point that ‘hope’ is one of the big three based on the love chapter. I agree with that assessment, so why aren’t we hearing much more about hope if it has a place in the top three or big three?
1 Corinthians 13:9-13 (KJV)
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (Bold added)
Today, let’s take a look at the first use of this word ‘hope’ in the New Testament. Looking at first use of a word is a fundamental rule of good study.
Acts 2:25-28 (KJV)
25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: (Bold added)
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
You likely recognize this as part of the Apostle Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost (Feast of Pentecost). Peter is quoting the Psalmist David (King David). Verse 25 above can be a little confusing concerning the right-hand reference, so let’s look at another translation of the Bible.
Acts 2:25 (TLB)
25 “King David quoted Jesus as saying: ’I know the Lord is always with me. He is helping me. God’s mighty power supports me.
This helps and we know that David is speaking of Jesus. This is the prophecy of what would happen to Jesus on the Cross. This is His (Jesus’) testimony in Hell. This testimony, this faith statement, uttered in love (we were on His mind not Himself), and full of hope (confident expectation) coupled with His innocent Blood brought Jesus as the first born of salvation from the pit. If this hope (confident expectation of vindication, salvation not just for Himself but all mankind who would receive) was good enough for Jesus it is certainly good enough for me. Now, let’s look at the place in the Psalms the Apostle Peter was quoting from.
Psalm 16:8-11 (KJV)
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Isn’t the Scripture just so wonderful? Lord willing, I will return next week with a fresh Word from the Throne.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
