DO ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS – PART SEVEN
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to From the Prophets Chamber and the topic Do All His Commands. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. This teaching is designed to hammer home the vital importance of obeying the commands of God and none other. The whole of Scripture speaks to this fact but somehow it does not get done. People claim to know this but their lives do not show the evidence, the fruit. God is not picking winners and losers, making some rich and others poor, some sick and others healthy and so on. We commonly hear the exclamation that He is Sovereign, that His ways are higher than our ways, beyond our understanding. Sovereign although commonly used in reference to God is not a Bible word however I will concede that the various descriptions of God are consistent with being Sovereign.
So, what does the word ‘sovereign’ mean? It means the one who is a supreme ruler such as a monarch. Having authority and having control are two very different things. Any parent knows this. God does not make any person do anything, it is always our choice, His child or not. Jesus is the head of the Church, the One of highest authority, the One from whom we receive instruction. When was the last time He made you do anything? I am talking about controlling you or me like a robot or a puppet not convicting us by His Word, the Holy Spirit, or messengers in our lives. The answer is never! We chose dear ones. He made us with a freewill meaning we are free to exercise our will. The whole of Scripture reflects or shouts this, Truth! What have you chosen, what have I chosen? The answer to what we have chosen is evidenced in the life we now live.
The will of God for us all to have a superabundant life now, in this life, and in the life to come. If God is in control of the details of our lives what is the Bible about, the instructions, the warnings, the outlining and examples of consequences for doing and not doing His will? No, all things are not working together for good in many of our lives, that is self-evident. It is never, I reiterate, never, the will of God for anyone to suffer spiritually, in their soul (mind, emotions), or physical body. Now we will, until we go Home, have to put up with things, the Bible uses the word suffer which in Scripture means to put up with. This is the suffering, putting up with, the temptations to sin, to be in fear, or to receive sickness of any sort in our physical body. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text.
Deuteronomy 28:1-4 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
What about the word ‘if’ in verse one? I found that this word ‘if’ occurs 1595 times in the KJV of the Bible. Let’s explore this word a little further. According to a dictionary, the word ‘if’ introduces a conditional clause, on the condition or supposition that, in the event that, provided (that), on the assumption that, given that, with the provision/proviso that, with/on the understanding that, contingent on, or in the event that. In this case the Lord uses the word if to spell out the condition under which a person will experience only blessing and no, I reiterate, no, curse. Don’t take my word for it, read the whole chapter. It doesn’t say anywhere that God throws in a little curse from time to time to keep us humble and appreciative. What kind of God do you think God is? Did He give us the Garden of Eden and even provide for days of Heaven on the Earth in the presence of the curse so He could abuse us from time to time? Our text is about to enumerate a number of blessings which by the way are always good by anyone’s definition. Remember the blessing is the empowerment to prosper, to be happy, in submission to God. The text says “all these blessings shall come on thee”, not some, not sometimes, or if I feel like it.
