GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT – PART THIRTEEN
Greetings and welcome to all who join this blog, the Friday Bible Study titled “Gifts” and currently focused on the nine gifts of the Spirit (Holy Spirit). Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to expand the reach of this Ministry and the Truth. Now, let us dive into our study of Gifts, gifts from God, specifically the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. By way of review, the word ‘gift’ can be used as a verb or a noun. The verb form is the action of giving. The Father by His Holy Spirit gives us these gifts. He gives them to us willingly, and as He wills for the building up of the Church. The word ‘gift’ in the noun form signifies the receipt of a talent, skill, or ability from the Holy Spirit. These gifts of the Spirit convey one or more supernatural abilities. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and the Apostle Paul’s discussion of these gifts by the unction of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (KJV)
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
As we continue our study of these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit let’s remind ourselves that they are commonly divided into three groups of three each. One group is the knowledge gifts of wisdom, knowledge, and discerning of spirits. A second group are the speaking gifts of prophecy, tongues, and the interpretation of tongues. A third group are the power gifts of faith, healing, and miracles. Today I will move forward in verse ten to discuss the “discerning of spirits”. To discern means to separate thoroughly according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The questions we are these. Who is present? Am I dealing with a human spirit (quickened or dead), the Holy Spirit, or an evil spirit?
We all need to operate in the sphere of knowing what spirit we are working with, who is present. All of us (Christians) are to be led of the Holy Spirit and He will keep us informed. Unfortunately, we operate far too often in the carnal realm evaluating people, and circumstances based on outward appearance. Let us ask our Heavenly Father to help us be more attuned to the Holy Spirit, to learn or practice being more sensitive to hearing and being obedient to that still small voice. We must hear for we can, Jesus said so, and then do with a willing heart. If we ignore the Holy Spirit or worse yet hear but don’t do, we are spurning our help, our protection. Disobedience to that voice is no different than disobedience to the Word of God and brings the curse into our lives. There is no such thing as I’ll do my thing, show up at Church, and have a blessed victorious life producing fruit for the Kingdom of God. We will have the curse.
Isaiah 1:19-20 (KJV)
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Before I move back more squarely on the Spiritual gift of the discerning of spirits notice we must not only be obedient but willing to be obedient. There needs to be a good attitude, excitement and joy in the opportunity to do for our Heavenly Father. Sometimes we have to pray for the Lord to help us to be willing to do His will.
Philippians 2:13-14 (NLT)
13 Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.
14 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (Bold added)
15 Do everything without complaining and arguing,
We can pray, ask the Lord, to give us more than one gift of the Spirit and this one, discerning of spirits, is vital for it can keep us from becoming unequally yoked.

20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Quit asking God to bless you, you are already blessed, you have the Blessing, give Him something to do by the words of your mouth. Once you know the will of God, decree the thing (Job 22:28, Isaiah 45:11, Mark 11:23). (The Blessing is the Holy Spirit) We have left God way to long with nothing to do in our lives.
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
