FIRSTFRUITS OFFERING

Once again, we will be diving into this really popular topic of offerings (sarcasm) but first let’s review our anchor Scripture.
Nehemiah 12:44 (KJV)
44 And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
Before moving on I will now look at two other Scriptures commanding the Firstfruits Offering. As we look at this closer one can plainly see that this offering is prophetic of the coming Christ, the firstfruits from the dead (not just physically but spiritually dead). Because something has been fulfilled does not also mean it is not observed. The Passover looked forward to the coming of the Savior, we observe Communion looking back on the coming of the Christ. Likewise, the Firstfruits Offering looked forward to the resurrection of the dead bodily and spiritually and we celebrate the resurrection of the dead spiritually and bodily. Now, let us move forward.
Leviticus 23:10-12 (KJV)
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the LORD.
This offering is brought to the Priest (Minister) when the crop is just starting to become mature. In modern day it would be from the first of the year income. The amount is between you and God. Verse twelve of the Leviticus text is clearly Messianic but also tells us that we bring the best to the Lord. When we bring something to the Priest, to put in the offering or otherwise at Church although we hand it to a man, God’s man, we are in reality handing it to God. Now, let’s examine a passage in the Proverbs.
Proverbs 3:7-10 (KJV)
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
Here we see several things working together with the Firstfruits Offering. We are to jettison pride, we are to put God in the highest place (all the time), we are shunning evil of all kinds all the time. These things bring health to our natural bodies. Then we come to verse nine with the command of the Firstfruits Offering. And we are told the benefit of this offering. This offering done in humility with a pure heart will result in an overwhelming harvest.
TAKE HOME:
- All offerings are to be brought in humility, in faith, motivated of love.
- The Firstfruit Offering is made holy when presented to the Priest (Minister) making the whole holy and bringing Kingdom abundance into the whole.
- The amount of the Firstfruits Offering is not discretionary but the amount is between us and the Lord dependent on the size of the firstfruits.
