HE GROANED IN THE SPIRIT
Thursday – July 25, 2019, Tamuz 22, 5779

Greeting dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to this powerful, encouraging, and empowering Bible Study of the book of John. Can you believe it, almost the weekend all over again? If you are reading this on Facebook please take just a moment and hit the “share” and “like” buttons, even tag your friends as the Lord leads you. These studies, this Ministry is focused primarily at strengthening the body of Christ which is the body of Anointing in the earth. Another way to say it is that we as individuals and a corporate body have the Anointing who is the Holy Spirit upon and within us and we constitute the body of God in the earth. Direction comes from the head and is carried out by the body just as in our human bodies. The featured pictures this week with the exception of the Friday edition are from my sweetheart’s birth State, Massachusetts. Now let’s turn our attention to the Bible Study, first reading our primary text from the Book of John aloud.
John 11:32-37 (KJV)
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 Jesus wept.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
On the way to the gravesite of Lazarus Jesus is met by Martha and Mary both expressing the thought that Lazarus would not have died if He came sooner. Martha however went on to say that even now the Father would give to Jesus whatever He asked. Mary does not do the same. Jesus sees Mary weeping and the Jews weeping. It does not say that Martha is weeping. She, Martha, no doubt has as much love for Lazarus as Mary but she is not weeping, she has faith that Jesus will raise her brother from the dead, apparently not so for Mary. This is a tremendous turning point for Mary as we will see in subsequent Scripture. Sometimes, all of us, come to repentance and have a whole change of direction, a righteous direction, following a spiritual failure. Neither God nor the devil have a direct role in our failures, they are ours alone just as our victories are ours to achieve. God always is offering a victorious option and the devil is always looking to steal, kill, and destroy.
Next, we find the phrase “he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled”. The word ‘groaned’ can mean to snort, an angry gesture or sound, like a horse snorting and pawing the ground. It may be useful to look at a couple of other translations to give further insight, understanding.
John 11:33 (AMP)
33 When Jesus saw her sobbing, and the Jews who came with her [also] sobbing, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. [He chafed in spirit and sighed and was disturbed.]
John 11:33 (TLB)
33 When Jesus saw her weeping and the Jewish leaders wailing with her, he was moved with indignation and deeply troubled.
Jesus was not happy! Why? Afterall He was here to raise Lazarus from the dead, He was about to manifest the will of God, manifest the glory of God, manifest the goodness of God. He is absolutely surrounded by unbelief and grief (sense of loss). One exception is Martha who is not weeping and had uttered a faith statement before arriving at the gravesite.
John 11:22 (KJV)
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
This expression of faith was going to be enough but Jesus is upset with the others, so little faith. I am shifting gears just a tad. Jesus is Anointed with and filled with the same Holy Spirit as was present in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. This same Holy Spirit would return in fulness to the earth not many days from this event on the Day of Pentecost. One of the gifts of the Spirit is speaking in tongues and with the baptism in the Holy Spirit a prayer language is received. It is my belief that Jesus manifested all of the Gifts of the Spirit as well as the fruits of the Spirit during His earthly ministry including speaking in a Heavenly prayer language and speaking in tongues with interpretation (verses 41 and 42). Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
