JUDGMENT AND FIERY INDIGNATION
Tuesday – March 27, 2018 – Nisan 11, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this illuminating and faith building Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. God is so good to feed us His pure Word. Look to Scripture for the pure Word. As you will recall from yesterday we are in a passage of Scripture that should cause all of us to examine ourselves and ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate any areas that require repentance and a change. Our featured picture depicts someone in Hell. Hell is a very real place and it is awful beyond anything we can imagine and it is forever. Now, let us return to our text, please read aloud.
Hebrews 10:26-29 (KJV)
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
I believe that Scripture clearly teaches us that it is possible for a person to come to a saving knowledge of God through the Lord Jesus Christ, be on their way to Heaven, and choose to not follow Jesus, and end up in Hell. However, I want to quickly point out that this is not an easy or casual process. There are those who say that in the case above the individual was never saved to begin with. I suspect there are many who the organized Denominational Church believes to be backslidden and on their way to Hell having once been saved but will in fact show up in Heaven. Sin per se is not what sends people to Hell, it is not choosing Jesus as Lord and Savior that leaves people condemned. For those who have tasted the Heavenly gift there must be a willful turning away from and a repudiation of Christ. The Blood of Jesus does not come off easy or in a casual manner. The persons our text is talking about are those who were born again, filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, operated in one or more gifts of the Spirit, and functioned in an office of the Five-Fold Ministry. These people then entered into repeated and willful sin. These are people not with just a casual knowledge of the Word of God but people who had clear, exact, engaging, and life changing knowledge. These are people who are openly and willfully repudiating Christ Jesus. This perhaps seems inconceivable to those reading this teaching but it is possible and the Word of God (our text and others) warns us about this. Consider the following Scriptures.
Hebrews 6:4-6 (KJV)
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
2 Peter 2:20-22 (KJV)
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
I am guessing that you have not found this a fun read today but it emphases the importance of our interceding for one another and that we continually provoke one another unto love and to good works. As I am finishing for today, let’s take a look at our primary text again and a few verses following in the Amplified translation of the Bible.
Hebrews 10:29-31 (AMP)
29 How much worse (sterner and heavier) punishment do you suppose he will be judged to deserve who has spurned and [thus] trampled underfoot the Son of God, and who has considered the covenant blood by which he was consecrated common and unhallowed, thus profaning it and insulting and outraging the [Holy] Spirit [Who imparts] grace (the unmerited favor and blessing of God)?
30 For we know Him Who said, Vengeance is Mine [retribution and the meting out of full justice rest with Me]; I will repay [I will exact the compensation], says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge and determine and solve and settle the cause and the cases of His people.
31 It is a fearful (formidable and terrible) thing to incur the divine penalties and be cast into the hands of the living God!
You can imagine how you might feel or perhaps this has happened to you that you have poured all that was most precious (mostly yourself) into the life of another. Initially they received it, but then they scorned it and trampled it under foot. Jesus (God Himself) was the most precious thing Heaven had to offer for our redemption. I for one am looking for and doing all I know to do in order to have a triumphant, jubilant, and abundant entry into Heaven. There I can lay my crown at the feet of my Lord and Savior when my race is run to completion.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
