IF WE SIN WILLFULLY
Monday – March 26, 2018 – Nisan 10, 5778

Thank you for following The Three Minute Word, these teaching will strengthen us all. Led of the Holy Spirit I strive to bring forth the pure Word of God. I make every effort to avoid bringing or teaching a corrupted (tainted or perverted) Word of God, a corrupted word is not the Word of God at all. Any of us can build faith in a tainted word however it will not result in the Power of God manifesting in our lives. This is rampant in the organized or Denominational Church. The pure uncorrupted Word of the Lord on the other hand brings signs and wonders into our lives to expand the Kingdom of God and bring the goodness of God into other peoples lives. Before we move into our wonderful Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews I want to remind you that what we call Easter or Resurrection Sunday is near. Today on the Hebrew Calendar is the 10th of Nisan (started at sundown yesterday). This is the day that God commanded the children of Israel to set a lamb for sacrifice aside before the first Passover.
Exodus 12:3-6 (KJV)
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
The five days between the 10th and the 14th of Nisan were days to inspect the lamb to be offered to be sure it was the best. In like manner Jesus entered Jerusalem on this day (10th of Nisan) five days before the Crucifixion and ministered in Jerusalem all five of those days. He was inspected.
Matthew 21:7-9 (KJV)
7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
The preceding passage is a partial account of what is commonly called “The Triumphant Entry”. This crowd worshipped Him this day but five days later would demand that He be crucified. This was the Lamb of God who in a few days would joyfully die for our sins, the sins of the whole world. Interestingly the word “Hosanna” means: save now, help now, or save we pray thee according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. Thank you, Jesus, for my salvation. Now let’s read aloud our primary text for our Hebrews Bible Study.
Hebrews 10:26-29 (KJV)
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
As I am sure you have already noted, the words “sin wilfully” is the key to this verse. As we examine the construction of this verse from the Greek we see that this is an ongoing sinful lifestyle that is knowing and willful. These are not sins of ignorance, or sins that we did on purpose and then repented of but willful sin that is repetitive without repentance. Sin is a breach of The Blood Covenant. Continued breaches of The Blood Covenant abrogate (revokes, rescinds) the Covenant and is an offense punishable by death, in this case spiritual and physical. All of the prior obligations and benefits are null and void and we are outside of the Covenant relationship with the Father in Christ Jesus. This is commonly called backsliding however there is a point, a line that can be crossed, which is the unforgiveable sin. The idea of an unforgiveable sin is not applicable to one who has never been saved. As we look at our text in verse twenty-six we also find the phrase “knowledge of the truth”. This is also key to this idea of one choosing to throw away their salvation in Christ Jesus. The Truth is the Word of God, it is the Word that makes us free. Free from Satan, the curse, and places us in The Blood Covenant with all of the precious promises of God. The word “knowledge” is the Greek word transliterated to English as epignōsis according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. As one studies this word you will find that it is the highest level of knowledge which makes the Word clear and exact, engaging, and life changing. I think we can see that this verse is not talking about the one who is just saved or a casual Christian but one who has “tasted of the heavenly gift”.
Hebrews 6:4-6 (KJV)
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Selah.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
