LISTEN TO ME

Greetings dear and precious saints of God, our brothers and sisters in Christ, the Firstborn from the dead. Remember, Donna and I love you and there is nothing you can do about it. As we move forward, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Those who share are fulfilling Scripture broadening the reach of this Ministry with the Truth. One of our primary missions is to the Church, the body of Christ. The Church, us individually, with a very few exceptions are not operating according to the teachings of the Bible. Yet the Bible is before us? The featured picture is of Donna and me a couple of years ago at Small’s Falls on the way to Rangeley Maine, a beautiful spot. Well let’s turn our attention to our main Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 28:19-22 (TLB)
19 Again and again that flood will come and carry you off, until at last the unmixed horror of the truth of my warnings will finally dawn on you.”
20 The bed you have made is far too short to lie on; the blankets are too narrow to cover you.
21 The Lord will come suddenly and in anger, as at Mount Perazim and Gibeon, to do a strange, unusual thing—to destroy his own people!
22 So scoff no more, lest your punishment be made even greater, for the Lord God has plainly told me that he is determined to crush you.
As we move forward, I wanted to bring just a little more clarity to verse twenty-one. Knowing the details of those places does not seem to be important to our understanding of what is about to befall the House of God absent repentance. Let’s see this verse in the New Living Translation.
Isaiah 28:21-22 (NLT)
21 The LORD will come as he did against the Philistines at Mount Perazim and against the Amorites at Gibeon. He will come to do a strange thing; he will come to do an unusual deed:
22 For the Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, has plainly said that he is determined to crush the whole land. So scoff no more, or your punishment will be even greater.
The word “strange” literally means ‘to turn aside’. To me this means that this is going to be different from before and from the context it is going to be worse. Isaiah continues to prophesy that the Lord (the One we now call Jesus) is going to crush His own people. He goes on to say, if you continue this scoffing it will be even worse then now prophesied. The translated as scoff above is also translated as mock is a verb meaning to boast, to scorn, to mock, to deride, to imitate or to boast so as to express utter contempt according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. We see this among the various denominations concerning various activities each embrace. One may embrace speaking in tongues for example whereas another may express contempt for those doing so. God sees that person as a scorner or mocker. Don’t think any of us should be in that most unenviable position. Now let’s move forward into verse twenty-three. The Lord is pleading with His people. He is pleading today, who has ears to hear?
Isaiah 28:22-23 (TLB)
22 So scoff no more, lest your punishment be made even greater, for the Lord God has plainly told me that he is determined to crush you.
23 Listen to me, listen as I plead: Does a farmer always plow and never sow? Is he forever harrowing the soil and never planting it?
Isaiah 28:25-29 (TLB)
25 Does he not finally plant his many kinds of grain, each in its own section of his land?
26 He knows just what to do, for God has made him see and understand.
27 He doesn’t thresh all grains the same. A sledge is never used on dill, but it is beaten with a stick. A threshing wheel is never rolled on cummin, but it is beaten softly with a flail.
28 Bread grain is easily crushed, so he doesn’t keep on pounding it.
29 The Lord Almighty is a wonderful teacher and gives the farmer wisdom.
As we read down through this text and see that God has made each to see and understand these natural things. He goes a little further with talking about farming and harvesting techniques that the Lord has allowed man to see He repeats that “The Lord Almighty is a wonderful teacher and gives the farmer wisdom”. And so, He gives wisdom to us all, are we listening, are we doing?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
