THE THREE MINUTE WORD
Tuesday – August 15, 2023, Av 28, 5783
Greetings dear and precious saints of God, my brothers and sisters in the faith, this common salvation. Welcome back to this enlightening study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. The study is not enlightening because of me, but because of Him, the Teacher. Please take a moment and share this teaching by every means available to you. The sharing is very important. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is provided by Joe Getchell Jr, a faithful man of God, who takes the most wonderful pictures. Thank you so much my friend.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah. Continue (not start) to read out loud.
Isaiah 44:3-7 (KJV)
3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
5 One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.
6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
Isn’t the Book of Isaiah just over the top wonderful? I know I say that about all of Scripture but it is the Truth. Where would we be without the Scripture? I feel bad for those who are just ho hum about Scripture but still want to go to Heaven. They go to Church, perhaps even tithe and give, but don’t have a fire for the Word. Seemingly going through the religious motions thinking or hoping it is enough to escape Hell and make Heaven. In some ways I fear for their salvation. Let’s turn our attention to verse five of our text. Remember the Lord is speaking to His people. He is not talking to the heathen so in verse five we see only two groups of people, however there are three in the earth.
1 Corinthians 10:32 (KJV)
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
In our text there are those who declare they are the Lord’s; these would be the Church. The text goes on to describe observant Jews and proselytes to Judaism. Because this group has not received Jesus as Lord and Savior they are as lost as the Gentiles but are separate for they are still a Covenant people. In the end their sin will be removed but only after two-thirds of the Jewish population is killed during the Great Tribulation. Now, let’s move to verse six.
Isaiah 44:6 (KJV)
6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
This may seem a little confusing in the KJV so let’s look at Young’s Literal Translation. Confusing from the standpoint of who is talking and who are they talking about.
Isaiah 44:6 (YLT)
6 Thus said Jehovah, king of Israel, And his Redeemer, Jehovah of Hosts: `I am the first, and I the last, And besides Me there is no God.
This is a very interesting verse, notice the use of the Title or Name Jehovah being used for both the Father and the Son. The One we call Father calls Himself the king of Israel. Let’s take a moment to look at the word Jehovah. This word is transliterated from Hebrew to English as Yhwh meaning the self-Existent or Eternal One, Jewish national name of God, Jehovah, the Lord according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The Father describes Himself as the king of the Jewish nation and declares Jesus, the Lord of hosts (angelic armies), king of those redeemed (you and me). They both identify as the first and last. We are used to this verbiage being used only in reference to Jesus.
Revelation 1:17-18 (KJV)
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
