Monday – April 22, 2024, Nisan 14, 5784
Greetings dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus and welcome to this special teaching today concerning Passover. Today is the 14th of Nisan, the Day of Passover starts at approximately 6 pm this evening. This is the first, and perhaps the most important, of the seven Feasts commanded of the Lord. As I prepare to move forward in this study, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible to expand our reach with the Truth, the gospel. Thank you for sharing. This is a day for commemorating the first Passover observed in ancient Egypt by the Israelites. It is also the day that our Passover, Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, hung on the Cross. This is the day He died for me and for you! Let’s thoughtfully and thankfully take some time and review this wonderful redemption account without which we would be without hope, ravaged at will by the devil, and then burn in Hell forever. Notice the instructions God gives Moses and Aaron concerning the Passover Lamb.
Exodus 12:1-6 (KJV)
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
The Passover Lamb was to be set aside on the 10th of Nisan and must have certain traits as we see. This is the same day that our Passover Lamb, Jesus, rode into Jerusalem on a donkey some 1500 years later. This is commonly referred to as the Triumphant Entry.
John 12:1 (KJV)
1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
It was here in Bethany that Mary had anointed Jesus with a costly ointment known as spikenard. The disciples, starting with Judas, who was to betray Him, got bent out of shape saying it was a great waste. In today’s dollars this may have represented as much as $50,000. They didn’t value (honor) Jesus and were covetous. Jesus said one can’t serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24). Could anything be a waste on Jesus? Jesus said that Mary had anointed Him for His burial. This is the ninth of Nisan, the next day, on the 10th of Nisan He enters Jerusalem.
John 12:12-15 (KJV)
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
Jesus is in and out of Jerusalem, time of inspection, until the “Last Supper” in the upper room, the 14th of Nisan. He anoints the feet of His disciples (washed with water [Word]) to be sent as He was sent of the Father. Then they go to the Garden of Gethsemane, He prays in great agony and spiritual battle, and surrenders to the Cross. The Cross is why He came.
Passover is followed by the Feast of Unleavened Bread on the 15th of Nisan and the Feast of First fruits on the 16th of Nisan.
Leviticus 23:4-6 (KJV)
4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD’S passover.
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
Jesus is the unleavened Bread, the sinless sacrifice.
Leviticus 23:10-11 (KJV)
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
Jesus is the first fruit of this sacrifice, the first born from the dead (Colossians 1:18), the first born among many brethren (Romans 8:29) of which you are one and I am one. It is important for us to quickly and completely partake of the LORD’S Passover. Our complete redemption cost Him the highest price and brings about a jubilee for us which is a cancellation of all the debt of sin, return of our property (Kingdom of God spiritual and physical), return of our citizenship, and a return to our family (family of God). It returns to us the option Adam had of living in the Seventh Day, in Gods’ provision, and not the world system of painful toil and sweat.
Lord willing, we will return to our study of Isaiah tomorrow. Remember the Lord loves you and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
