AWAKE, ARISE, AND TRIUMPH

Greetings dear and precious children of God and welcome back to this Bible Study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud. You know why!
Isaiah 23:10-18 (TLB)
10 Sail on, O ships of Tarshish, for your harbor is gone.
11 The Lord holds out his hand over the seas; he shakes the kingdoms of the earth; he has spoken out against this great merchant city, to destroy its strength.
12 He says, “Never again, O dishonored virgin, daughter of Sidon, will you rejoice, will you be strong. Even if you flee to Cyprus, you will find no rest.”
13 It will be the Babylonians, not the Assyrians, who consign Tyre to the wild beasts. They will lay siege to it, raze its palaces, and make it a heap of ruins.
14 Wail, you ships that ply the oceans, for your home port is destroyed!
15 For seventy years Tyre will be forgotten. Then, in the days of another king, the city will come back to life again;
16 she will sing sweet songs as a harlot sings who, long absent from her lovers, walks the streets to look for them again and is remembered.
17 Yes, after seventy years, the Lord will revive Tyre, but she will be no different than she was before; she will return again to all her evil ways around the world.
18 Yet [the distant time will come when] her businesses will give their profits to the Lord! They will not be hoarded but used for good food and fine clothes for the priests of the Lord!
For several verses we have seen the consequences of unrepented sin played out. We see that Tyre is forgotten for a season and then in the time of another king comes back to life. The really sad thing is that nowhere along the way do we see repentance and the Word of the Lord that they would again descend back into sin. This brings us to the eighteenth verse and the Word of the Lord concerning their fate at a distant time. That brief verse describes a time when their wealth will at least in part be used in the Lord’s behalf. Note that Sidon and Tyre are both in what is now Lebanon. This territory is part of the land that God has eternally deeded to Israel. It would appear to me that this verse refers to the prosperity of these port cities during the millennial reign of Christ. Jesus mentions these cites in His earthly Ministry and their sin.
Matthew 11:21-24 (KJV)
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
Please notice in verses twenty-two and twenty-four the phrase “the day of judgment”. The reason I draw our attention to this passage and specifically this phrase is to awaken us to the fact that there are not only consequences, judgments, in the earth for sin but also later in the future. The spiritual origin of all sin is the more consequential, the more serious. There is a judgment day for all peoples, saints and sinners alike, in a time to come. For saints the Judgment Seat of Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:10 (KJV)
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
It is here that the saint receives rewards, suffers losses, and perhaps even receives instructions for their future work. For the sinner (the lost) the final accounting will occur at the White Throne Judgment.
Revelation 20:11-15 (KJV)
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
