DESTROYING PRIDE

Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to this exciting, encouraging, and empowering Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. We are finding much about the coming Messiah (at that time) and God’s response to sin without repentance. Before I move forward, please take a moment to share this Bible teaching and all other teachings as widely as possible. Let each of us do our parts in making the goodness of God known as widely as possible.
It is Independence Day today here in the United States of America. The United States of America is a Covenant nation with the one and only Almighty God. We are one of only two Covenant nations in the earth for all time. The other Covenant nation is Israel. In the case of Israel, it was formed at the will of God (faith and obedience of Abram) for a people to show His glory and provide a mechanism for the Messiah to come. In the case of America our forefathers were looking to establish a nation in Covenant with God based on Holy Scripture. Men and women coming to this nation entered into Covenant with God starting with the Mayflower Compact, November 11, 1620. The Mayflower Compact in part contains these words: “Having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith…[we] combine ourselves together into a civil body politic for…furtherance of the ends aforesaid.” All of the State Constitutions acknowledge God with the exception of Oregon. The following are examples from Maine and Texas.
PREAMBLE.
Objects of government. We the people of Maine, in order to
establish justice, insure tranquility, provide for our mutual
defense, promote our common welfare, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of liberty, acknowledging with grateful hearts the goodness of the Sovereign Ruler of the Universe in affording us an opportunity, so favorable to the design; and, imploring God’s aid and direction in its accomplishment, do agree to form ourselves into a free and independent State, by the style and title of the State of Maine and do ordain and establish the following Constitution for the government of the same.
PREAMBLE
Humbly invoking the blessings of Almighty God, the people of the State of Texas, do ordain and establish this Constitution.
We are indeed a blessed people above all nations to ever exist upon the earth because we entered Covenant with the only Living God. We based our nation upon the principles, the commands, of Holy Scripture, and we have been careful to honor the Jewish peoples and Israel. Enjoy this day and honor God for our nation with thanksgiving. Know that this nation affords liberty like no other, however, Jesus Christ has brought to us who know Him even greater liberty for eternity. Now, let’s turn our attention to our text from the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 23:1-9 (TLB)
1 This is God’s message to Tyre: Weep, O ships of Tyre, returning home from distant lands! Weep for your harbor, for it is gone! The rumors that you heard in Cyprus are all true.
2-3 Deathly silence is everywhere. Stillness reigns where once your hustling port was full of ships from Sidon, bringing merchandise from far across the ocean, from Egypt and along the Nile. You were the merchandise mart of the world.
4 Be ashamed, O Sidon, stronghold of the sea. For you are childless now!
5 When Egypt hears the news, there will be great sorrow.
6 Flee to Tarshish, men of Tyre, weeping as you go.
7 This silent ruin is all that’s left of your once joyous land. What a history was yours! Think of all the colonists you sent to distant lands!
8 Who has brought this disaster on Tyre, empire builder and top trader of the world?
9 The Commander of the armies of heaven has done it to destroy your pride and show his contempt for all the greatness of mankind.
Again, we find justice being administered as a consequence of sin, the sin in this case is pride, pride was the first sin (to our knowledge) and really ticks God off (1 Peter 5:5-7). The opposite of pride is humility which pleases God. The “Commander of the armies of heaven” in verse nine, is none other than the One we now call Lord Jesus.
Proverbs 6:16-19 (KJV)
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow, enjoy this day with thanksgiving to God and to those who secured and have maintained our freedoms.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
