ROCK OF OFFENCE

Greetings dear and precious saints of the Kingdom of God, sons and daughters of the Father, brothers and sisters with Christ Jesus, and helped of the Holy Spirit. Welcome back to The Three Minute Word series of teachings of the Book of Isaiah. This Book talks a lot of the coming Messiah. This is interwoven with the detailing, even lamenting by God of the disobedience of His people and the consequences of that rebellion. Unfortunately, these cycles of righteousness and unrighteousness among God’s people did not stop at Calvary but continues to this day. Please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible to expand the reach of really good news. Some may think that pointing out the shortcomings (error/sin) in the Church is not good news but it is, for corrected brings victory. Otherwise, the future will be more of the same which is singing and talking about victory while it is conspicuously absent. I for one want to see the Church rise up walking as the Lion of Judah it was created to be having victory (manifestations of the Promised Land) in our houses, and bringing it in abundance to others. The beautiful picture featured today is from our good friend and man of God, Joe Getchell Jr. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible Text in the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 8:13-15 (KJV)
13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
Last week we talked about “Sanctify the LORD of hosts” in verse thirteen and this is a separating of the Lord from all others, all else, all things. The Lord (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) must be first by far in all things, all activities, all persons, for us to walk in unmitigated victory. Listen to the Lord speaking through the Prophet Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 17:5-8 (KJV)
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
It is a simple choice, have we chosen cursing or blessing? It is our choice, the Lord has given us the option, we choose. He will not control our response, people, and the demons cannot control our response. We alone choose, and we reap what we sow, it is a spiritual law. As we move forward to verse fourteen, we see that the Lord of hosts (for us the Lord Jesus Christ) is to be our sanctuary, He and His Word (by our confession) is our hiding place, our place of safety. The Word here in Isaiah tells all a head of time that Jesus’ own people, the people of God, will find Him to be a “stone of stumbling” and “a rock of offence”.
Romans 9:30-33 (KJV)
30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
We, the Church, seem to think that faith is a new thing but faith has always been required by God. Think about the faith of Abraham which brought the Child of Promise (not just Isaac but the Christ) and the lack of faith which kept the children of Israel out of the Promised Land. Just because it says it is impossible to please God without faith in Hebrews 11:6 does not mean it hasn’t always been the Truth. God does not change and His will has not changed from Genesis 1:1 and before to this moment and beyond, period. It never will change. Everything in the Kingdom of God, in the kingdom of darkness, all is by faith. One by faith in God, the other by faith in other gods.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
