Greetings dear friend and brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, the Lord is so good dear ones. Welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. Today I am moving into the 47th chapter using the NIV version of Scripture. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. If you are not sharing ask yourself and ask the Lord, why not. The featured picture today is to remind us of and to pray for the seven pillars of society. We also might want to ask ourselves and the Lord if we are in our right place.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV)
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone–
2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Let us all be sure we are doing this with all diligence, by the leadership of the Holy Spirit, in faith, in love.
Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 47:1-4 (NIV)
1 “Go down, sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, Daughter of the Babylonians. No more will you be called tender or delicate.
2 Take millstones and grind flour; take off your veil. Lift up your skirts, bare your legs, and wade through the streams.
3 Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one.”
4 Our Redeemer–the LORD Almighty is his name– is the Holy One of Israel.
It is clear that Babylon is having their dominate place on the world stage removed. Why? Perhaps you will recall that a few chapters ago God pointed out that although He had used them to bring judgment upon His people, they had overstepped their bounds. This overstepping in turn brought judgment upon them. According to the Rose Bible Timeline Chart Isaiah’s life was from 760-673 BC, however, Babylonian as a major part of the Assyrian, Neo-Babylonian, and Persian Empires does not disappear until 340 BC. This may not be the point being made. Babylon is commonly thought to be a type of the world system. In that context Babylon is mention prominently in the Book of Revelation several times and then the world system sees its end. The following verse is just prior to the Second Coming, or perhaps as part of the Second Coming.
Revelation 18:21 (KJV)
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
So, we see a short run, if you call 400 years a short run, judgment and a long run or final judgment not only of the physical city Babylon but what it represents, the world system or the god of this worlds system.
