Greetings dear ones in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and welcome back to this enabling Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. Like the rest of Scripture, it is only enabling when we receive it, prove it, believe it, and implement it not doubting. Hearing and parroting back will not get it done; it is vain. Listen (you are reading out loud aren’t you) to two witnesses.
Matthew 6:7 (KJV)
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
1 Timothy 6:20-21 (KJV)
20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much. The featured picture today was provided by Joe Getchell Jr back in October 2023 of these beautiful geese. Thank you, so much faithful man of God, for these beautiful pictures.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, yes, out loud. You know why!
Isaiah 51:17-23 (TLB)
17 Wake up, wake up, Jerusalem! You have drunk enough from the cup of the fury of the Lord. You have drunk to the dregs the cup of terror and squeezed out the last drops.
18 Not one of her sons is left alive to help or tell her what to do.
19 These two things have been your lot: desolation and destruction. Yes, famine and the sword. And who is left to sympathize? Who is left to comfort you?
20 For your sons have fainted and lie in the streets, helpless as wild goats caught in a net. The Lord has poured out his fury and rebuke upon them.
21 But listen now to this, afflicted ones—full of troubles and in a stupor (but not from being drunk)—
22 this is what the Lord says, the Lord your God who cares for his people: “See, I take from your hands the terrible cup; you shall drink no more of my fury; it is gone at last.
23 But I will put that terrible cup into the hands of those who tormented you and trampled your souls to the dust and walked upon your backs.”
I left off yesterday with verse eighteen and the idea that there were no sons left to help or give direction. I think we can see in the context that the Lord is talking about more than male persons being alive in the nation. He is talking about sons. This Hebrew word is translated to English as bēn meaning a son, a builder of the family name according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The Lord is saying there are no builders in Israel left to build my name or the name of this nation. The root word is bānâ meaning to build (literal and figurative), obtain children, make, repair, or set up according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. This word bānâ also means to build, build up, rebuild, or construct. The main areas of its use are: to build a city according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament.
So, we see that the Lord is saying all the builders are gone there are none to lead, to comfort, and to rebuild. But God is faithful and He will raise up a leader as He did over and over again in the times of the Judges. That does not happen until repentance occurs and the people cry out to God, not just for relief, but in repentance. Scripture says we are the sons of God. Do our lives at least in part fit the definition of a son as presented above?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember the Lord loves (agapaō) you and is love (agapē), He is nothing but good and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
