Greetings dear ones in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and welcome back to this enabling Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. Like the rest of Scripture, it is only enabling when we receive it, prove it, believe it, and implement it not doubting. Hearing and parroting back will not get it done; it is vain. Listen (you are reading out loud aren’t you) to two witnesses.
Matthew 6:7 (KJV)
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
1 Timothy 6:20-21 (KJV)
20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much. The photo today features a beautiful Blue Jay and was taken at our Condo in Maine a few years ago. Beautiful bird but they can really squawk.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, yes, out loud. You know why!
Isaiah 51:17-23 (TLB)
17 Wake up, wake up, Jerusalem! You have drunk enough from the cup of the fury of the Lord. You have drunk to the dregs the cup of terror and squeezed out the last drops.
18 Not one of her sons is left alive to help or tell her what to do.
19 These two things have been your lot: desolation and destruction. Yes, famine and the sword. And who is left to sympathize? Who is left to comfort you?
20 For your sons have fainted and lie in the streets, helpless as wild goats caught in a net. The Lord has poured out his fury and rebuke upon them.
21 But listen now to this, afflicted ones—full of troubles and in a stupor (but not from being drunk)—
22 this is what the Lord says, the Lord your God who cares for his people: “See, I take from your hands the terrible cup; you shall drink no more of my fury; it is gone at last.
23 But I will put that terrible cup into the hands of those who tormented you and trampled your souls to the dust and walked upon your backs.”
As we come into verse eighteen the Lord is saying that not one of Israels sons is left. Of course, not all males of any age were killed so what is the Lord talking about? Notice the context of the verse. Let’s take a look at the verse in the KJV.
Isaiah 51:18 (KJV)
18 There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
There are none to take her (Israels) hand or tell her what to do. I believe the Lord is referring to the leaders of Israel, there are no leaders left. Remember it is the leadership of any group that increases or decreases righteousness.
1 Kings 16:2 (KJV)
2 Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee prince over my people Israel; and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins;
Notice that God points out that it was the leader, the prince, who made the people to sin. I believe the key to verse eighteen, to the passage, resides in the word “son”.
I will pick up right here tomorrow, Lord willing. Remember the Lord is always good and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
