THE BLOOD COVENANT – PART FOUR
Sunday – February 25, 2018

Greetings and welcome back to this study of Blood Covenant. Blood Covenant is a love (Bible Love not romance) relationship between to persons or peoples. Bible love, agape, at its core is obedience to the Word of God. It obligates us to do the Word of God and the same applies to God. The second expression of Bible love is selflessness. Finally, the third expression is recognition of the elements of The Blood Covenant which binds us
with God in Christ Jesus. The Bible has two major blood covenants. The first is the Covenant which was ratified by innocent animal blood and the second was ratified with the Blood of Christ. I also want it to be noted that these ten elements of The Blood Covenant we are reviewing are applicable to the Marriage Covenant between a man and a woman, after all we are the bride of Christ. I have abstracted these from E. W. Kenyon’s book on The Blood Covenant (which I wholeheartedly recommend).
Thus far I have covered the first four tenants of blood covenant practiced from ancient times among many peoples. I will briefly review these as we move on.
- A weaker party covenants with a stronger party. It is rare for to persons of peoples of equal strength to make a blood covenant. I think even the rankest sinner recognizes that we are the weaker party in this covenant with God. He is our Creator, He is God and we are not. We are created just a little lower than God. In the marriage covenant the woman is the weaker party or vessel according to Scripture (1 Peter 3:7). The husband (man) is the head of the family just as Christ is the head of the Church (bride) (Ephesians 5:23).
- A blood covenant establishes equality between the parties. When we entered the Blood Covenant with God through Christ an equality was established. We became the children of God, we are not pets or of some other kind we are of like kind (Genesis 1:26-27), the same spiritual DNA as God. Since the Resurrection the same physical DNA as Christ at the redemption of our bodies.
- Blood covenant is perpetual or eternal after all we are eternal creations. Remember in Genesis 17:7 God made covenant with Israel and the Church as an everlasting covenant. Divorce was never the plan or will of God.
- Blood covenant is indissoluble or unbreakable. Once entered into there is no turning back or a changing of the mind by either the stronger or weaker party. By neither the husband or the wife in the perfect will of God.
Now let’s move on to the fifth component of blood covenant.
- The blood covenant is honored in succeeding generations. Over and over in Scripture we see God honoring His covenant, for example, with David and his descendants. David albeit he was imperfect was in Covenant with God under the First Covenant by the spilling of innocent animal blood from time to time and year to year.
1 Kings 11:11-12 (KJV)
11 Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
12 Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father’s sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.
2 Kings 8:19 (KJV)
19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
Now I will move to the sixth tenant of blood covenant.
- Breaking the blood covenant leads to death, Scripture says that the wages of sin (breaking covenant) is death. This was such a serious tenant of blood covenant that a family member kills the covenant breaker and restore the integrity of the covenant. Just as our Blood Covenant with God in Christ has extraordinary benefits there are also very definite responsibilities. There is no obligation that takes precedence over those of a blood covenant. The weaker party cannot expect to take their obligations lightly and the stronger party strictly adhere to their obligations. When we break our Covenant with God, called sin, the door is opened to the devil to steal, kill, and destroy. God has no obligation to protect us as long as we are unrepentant and in breach of our contract. Unrepentant sin leads to death.
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
I will finish today with the seventh tenant of blood covenant.
- Blood covenant gives equal access to assets between the parties. We surely got the best part of this deal by far. God calls us possessors of Heaven and earth and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus. This is a huge issue in some marriages where commonly the husband has joint accounts and or property that he withholds from his wife. Of course, it can be the other way as well. At the bottom of this is the love of money and the Scripture tell us that every evil work can spring from this sin.
Romans 8:16-17 (KJV)
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Galatians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Next Sunday I will move into the final three tenants of blood covenant. I think it should be clear to even the casual observer that even though this was commonly practiced and still is in pagan societies it has its basis in Scripture. It may have various perversions in the world but is still recognizable. All things, all ideas, originate with God. The devil is the original pervert and he twists the Word of God and the ways of God to thwart the will of God and destroy people, it is wickedness, twisted.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
