THE FIRST COMING

Alabama State Capitol
Greetings precious children of God and welcome back to this inspiring, empowering, and hope giving study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. As we precede forward, please take a moment to share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the gospel, the really good news. Thank you for sharing. By sharing you have a powerful role in the dissemination of the Truth. The featured picture today is of the State Capitol to Alabama to remind us to obey the command to pray for those in authority. These are difficult times in our own nation and around the world, yet we know in whom we trust, in whom our unshakeable hope resides
Please notice the flow of this eleventh chapter of Isaiah. The first three verses deal with the first coming of Christ. The next two verses have to do with the Second Coming and the battle of Armageddon. It would be reasonable to conclude then that verses six through nine have to do with the Millennial Reign (and our reign with Him) of Christ over the whole earth, but do they? Now, let’s go forward reading our primary Bible text from the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Jesus First Coming as Messiah!
Isaiah 11:1-3 (KJV)
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
I have talked about the first three verses at length last week but let’s refresh ourselves briefly. First, Jesus is in the natural lineage of Jesse.
Matthew 1:5 (KJV)
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
And the “begat’s” continue to Christ.
Matthew 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
What is with the mention of the number fourteen in one verse? Three 14’s is 42 which is the number of the Lord’s Advent or arrival. The number fourteen is mentioned three times. Three is the number resurrection and Divine completeness or perfection. Can you see the Christ (Messiah) in all of this? Finally, the number fourteen is the Bible number of deliverance or salvation. O what a Savior!! Let’s continue with Isaiah 11:2.
Luke 2:40 (KJV)
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
The “grace of God” would include the Seven Spirits of God we discussed from Isaiah 11:2.
Luke 2:52 (KJV)
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
“The child” referred to here is Jesus, the Christ, who was born into the earth as other men. The presence of a human, flesh and bone body was new to Jesus, the Second Person of the Trinity of God. In addition, He set aside all that made Him God (big G) and became as other men (little g). As we can clearly see from the preceding verses Jesus grew as other people. The Luke 2:40 verse is just after His circumcision and Luke 2:52 is at age 13 just after His Bar mitzvah. The following is a short description of Bar mitzvah.
Bar mitzvah is Hebrew for “son of commandment.” When a Jewish boy turns 13, he has all the rights and obligations of a Jewish adult, including the commandments of the Torah. From that date, he will wear tefillin on a daily basis, participate in synagogue services and take his place in the Jewish community. This milestone—called a bar mitzvah—is often celebrated with a ceremony in synagogue, tefillin wearing, and parties. The celebrant may be called to the Torah, lead services, deliver a speech or otherwise demonstrate his newfound status.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow picking up with Isaiah 11:3. Please read, listen to the following announcement.
