Greetings dear and precious saints, the redeemed of the Lord and welcome back to our study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. She takes many beautiful and stunning pictures of wildlife. Thank you, Marilyn, for your beautiful pictures. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today and read it out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 57:14-17 (NIV)
14 And it will be said: “Build up, build up, prepare the road! Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.”
15 For this is what the high and lofty One says– he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.
16 I will not accuse forever, nor will I always be angry, for then the spirit of man would grow faint before me– the breath of man that I have created.
17 I was enraged by his sinful greed; I punished him, and hid my face in anger, yet he kept on in his willful ways.
Verse fourteen in the KJV reads as follows.
Isaiah 57:14 (KJV)
14 And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.
Today the term “cast ye up” is obscure at best, the NIV brings some additional light. The Lord is saying to rise up and oppose what has opposed them, the Lord, and played a role in leaving the Lords’ Word, the Lords’ plan. I think we pretty much understand the concept of a stumbling block. In the Hebrew it has to do with an obstacle, or enticement according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Any obstacle to doing the will of God is an illusion, a deception of the enemy and any enticement has to do with an idol, the putting of something before God, or a lust of the flesh, of the eye, or pride of life. God must be number one, He will not be number two.
The Lord says I inhabit or live in eternity, I am holy, and dwell not only in a high and holy place but I am with the humble, those who have a contrite heart. This reminds us of a passage in 1st Peter.
1 Peter 5:5-7 (KJV)
5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Let me as us a question. Are we doing this passage? Have chosen His resistance or His Grace? The fruit of our life has the answer. Now, as we move to verse sixteen, we find a stern warning. The Lord is saying He will not plead with this rebellious people to worship and follow after Him indefinitely. Is it that He simply gives up on the person or does the persons heart become so hardened that further pleading falls on ears that no longer hear the voice of God. I believe it is the latter.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, the Lord loves us, He has wonderful plans for everyone, and He cannot lie.
