WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR 2024? – PART FOUR
Greetings to all and welcome back to our Sunday Bible Study. We have just plunged into a new year, what is your vision? The featured picture is of a sunrise over the land with low hanging fog perhaps obscuring details of that to come. A person recently said that they expected 2024 to be better than 2023. The question back to them was, what are you going to change? You see without change or changes 2024 will look much like 2023. Einstein is credited with saying that the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Let’s take a quick look at our primary Bible text for a moment before moving into the “greater works” Jesus commanded us to do.
Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Notice it doesn’t say anywhere here or anywhere else in Scripture that we are to be waiting and looking for what He is going to do, but that He is looking for what we are to be doing. We hear the mantra all to often along these lines, “I can’t wait to get to Church and see what the Lord will do”. Well dear one the Lord is eager to see if you will be obedient and allow Him to work through you. We have the authority in the earth, not God, so whatever is going to get done, will be done by God, but through us. Just like the Ministry of Jesus.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
We are now going to plunge into what the greater works are, which is found at least in part in Isaiah 61.
Isaiah 61:1-7 (KJV)
1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.
7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.
Every bit of this applies to us, it is God’s vision for us and therefore must become our vision as well. At the start of the recorded Ministry of Jesus, He got up in the synagogue and read the first verse and half of the second. He did not go further for He did not have authority, He had not been to the Cross, or to Hell utterly destroying the works of the devil and his authority. Now we have this authority delegated once again backed by the Power of God. Just like Adam we have all authority and the Blessing (Genesis 1:26-28), which is the Power of God to prosper and increase in all things.
Do we believe that we can “build the old wastes”, “raise up the former desolations”, and “repair the waste cities”? God expects this of us and He is not returning until we get about the Masters business and quit just hanging out waiting to die or be raptured. In order to do these things, we will have to knock the poverty teachings right in the head. Later in this passage it talks about strangers taking care of our businesses. Do you suppose that do that for free out of the goodness of their hearts. Or do you suppose we are to be affluent enough to pay them while we are about the Kingdom of God business?
Way more can be said about all of this, but this is where I will leave it for now. God has a vision for us, are we seeking it and striving day to day to walk fully in that will. Are we building our faith, perfecting our love walk? Are we just going mindlessly from day to day, looking forward to the next gathering of our social club next Sunday?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Sunday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
