Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and continue reading out loud, yes, out loud. It is not a complete waste to read silently but you will not build or increase faith (Romans 10:17) and it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). Now, to our text reading out loud.
Isaiah 46:3-6 (NLT)
3 “Listen to me, descendants of Jacob, all you who remain in Israel. I have cared for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born.
4 I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.
5 “To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?
6 Some people pour out their silver and gold and hire a craftsman to make a god from it. Then they bow down and worship it!
Let’s take a look at verse three in the KJV.
Isaiah 46:3 (KJV)
3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
We see a reference here to “the belly” and “the womb”. The belly seems to be referring to the womb, uterus, and of note the gender of this word is feminine. The “carried from the womb” appears to be talk from birth and thereafter. The Hebrew word transliterated to English as womb means womb, compassion, mercy, affection, maiden and is a feminine noun according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. The Lord says I looked after you before birth and since as well having compassion, mercy and much affection for you. It seems to me that the womb was the time of Abram/Abraham and Isaac. The time of the birth and thereafter started with the birth of the twelve sons (tribes) of Israel (Jacob).
As we move into verse four, we find the Lord assuring them that He will be their God throughout their lifetime. It appears to me that He is addressing each and every individual Hebrew (Jew). I don’t believe He is referring to the nation as a whole for the verse seems to indicate an end. The Scripture seems clear that Israel, the Hebrew people, will be a nation before Him forever.
Jeremiah 31:36 (NLT)
36 “I am as likely to reject my people Israel as I am to abolish the laws of nature!”
Yes, there will be natural laws in the New Earth of Revelation 21:1. Don’t we have such a wonderful God? The answer is Yes! As we go forward in this fourth verse, He assures them that He will take care of them, that He would carry them along, and save them. This is much like verse three except for the last phrase “save you”. In the KJV the word deliver is used instead of save. Let’s look at how this Hebrew word is translated in other places in Scripture – escape 47, deliver 33, save 5, out 4, alone 1, get away 1, lay 1, preserve 1, speedily 1, and surely 1 [Total Count: 95] according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.
This is much like save or salvation in the Greek.
