JUDE – PART FORTY-THREE
Video link: https://youtu.be/RSz8Qjr_h5w
Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this instructive study of the Bible Book of Jude. Although this Book is short it is full of instruction for the wise.
Proverbs 9:9 (KJV)
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
The main purpose in the mind of Jude when he sat down to write this letter (Epistle) was to impress upon them and us the importance of “earnestly” contending for and adhering to the faith (the Truth we are to believe) as it was delivered to and for us from the beginning. He goes into some detail of the dangers of not clinging to the faith as it was once delivered. Now we come to a most encouraging part of this Book of Jude and Scripture in general. He is giving us insight how to maintain our faith as given in the beginning and how to help others.
Now, let’s pick up with our primary Bible text for today. Please continue to read out loud.
Jude 1:20-25 (KJV)
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Today I will pick up with verse twenty-two of our primary Bible text. To pity someone is to have an emotional response but to have compassion is pity combined with some sort of action. It is us being moved to an action that is in some way intended to benefit the person upon which we have compassion. Compassion makes a difference, pity does not. Look at verse 23 in the Message Bible.
Jude 1:23 (MSG)
23 Go after those who take the wrong way. Be tender with sinners, but not soft on sin. The sin itself stinks to high heaven.
I think all too often this becomes confused in our thinking, the difference between the sin and the one sinning. Let’s look at what one might call a companion verse.
Galatians 6:1 (KJV)
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
As we conclude our study of this illuminating Bible Book let’s rejoice in the last two verses of this Book.
Jude 1:24-25 (KJV)
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. The Lord is good and He cannot lie!
