JUDE – PART THIRTY-EIGHT

Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this instructive study of the Bible Book of Jude. Although this Book is short it is full of instruction for the wise.
Proverbs 9:9 (KJV)
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
The main purpose in the mind of Jude when he sat down to write this letter (Epistle) is found in the following verse.
Jude 1:3 (KJV)
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
It was vital that those to whom he was writing that they “should earnestly contend for the faith” but it is no less vital for us today. He is not talking about our or others “interpretation” of Scripture but what the Scripture actually says placed in the full context of the full counsel of Scripture. Jude then goes on to discuss the extreme danger of not clinging to the Truth, the faith as it was delivered. He, Jude, then cites examples of those who were once Gods’ people but let go of their faith (headed to Heaven) and were lost (headed to Hell).

5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Now, let’s pick up with our primary Bible text for today. Please continue to read out loud.
Jude 1:12-14 (NIV)
12 These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm–shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted–twice dead.
13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.
14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones
I have presented our text today in the NIV translation to give a little different insight into verse twelve which we discussed in some detail last week. Remember these people are among us. They act like they are of the Kingdom of God and perhaps they were at one time but have departed from the faith as it was delivered unto the saints, unto us. Notice the phrase “twice dead”. Before salvation we were, our spirit man, was dead in sin and then at salvation we were quickened by the Holy Spirit or made alive unto Him. However, these people having been there are now dead again for they turned from the faith as it was once delivered unto them and unto us.
Verse thirteen goes on to describe these people who once walked in Truth having light (revelation knowledge) but have turned away likely pursuing lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eye, and most especially the pride of life. Continuing into verse fourteen we see Jude to start to talk about Enoch. Jude says that Enoch Prophesied of these fallen vessels, more on that next week.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. The Lord is good and He cannot lie!
