JUDE – PART FORTY

Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this instructive study of the Bible Book of Jude. Although this Book is short it is full of instruction for the wise.
Proverbs 9:9 (KJV)
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
The main purpose in the mind of Jude when he sat down to write this letter (Epistle) was to impress upon them and us the importance of “earnestly” contending for and adhering to the faith (the Truth we are to believe) as it was delivered to and for us from the beginning. He goes into some detail of the dangers of not clinging to the faith as it was once delivered.
Now, let’s pick up with our primary Bible text for today. Please continue to read out loud.
Jude 1:17-19 (KJV)
17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
Let’s look at what the Apostle Peter had to say about mockers.
2 Peter 3:1-4 (NASB)
1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,
2 that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.
3 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,
4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”
Did you notice the verbiage in this passage is quite similar to that used by Jude. The Apostle Peter is reminding us to remember the words spoken beforehand. Down through time there have been men that came on the scene and wrote about the Scripture much like I am doing today. However, never ever forget that their words are not Scripture and neither are mine. Perhaps something can be learned from their writings and mine but only what is absolutely congruent with Scripture. Before we move on let’s look at Jude 1:18-19 in the Message Bible, it really brings it to where the rubber meets the road.
Jude 1:18-19 (MSG)
18 “In the last days there will be people who don’t take these things seriously anymore. They’ll treat them like a joke, and make a religion of their own whims and lusts.”
19 These are the ones who split churches, thinking only of themselves. There’s nothing to them, no sign of the Spirit!
Say nothing of Church splits, what about split after split in Christianity itself? According to one website “If you’re short on time, here’s a quick answer to your question: there are approximately 45,000 different Christian denominations worldwide as of 2024.” https://www.christianwebsite.com/how-many-denominations-of-christianity-2024/ Is God big on divisions? Who is? In case you are struggling, the answer I was looking for was the demons, the thieves.
