POLLUTE NOT THE SABBATH
Video link: https://youtu.be/szsaS9fnsJc
Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this study of the wonderfully Prophetic and instructive Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. The Lord will bless you for sharing. The featured picture today is of a beautiful Baptist Church located in Fayette, Maine.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 56:1-5 (KJV)
1 Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
3 Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
Today I will be focusing upon the second verse and not polluting or desecrating the Sabbath. I believe this is a far more serious issue then many of us realize or believe. First, let’s look at the second verse of our text in the NIV translation.
Isaiah 56:2 (NIV)
2 Blessed is the man who does this, the man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
The word “polluting” in the KJV or “desecrating” in the NIV mean to bore, to wound, to dissolve, to profane (a person, place or thing), to break (one’s word), to begin (as if by an “opening wedge”), and to play (the flute) according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Let’s take a look at this and see if we might be polluting the sabbath. Do we think that the Lord has changed His mind about the Sabbath? The commandment to “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” is the fourth commandment of the big ten.
Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Is this what your Sunday or mine looks like or are we at the mall, the beach, or perhaps catching up on chores? As we look back at the definition of “polluting” we find the Sabbath as a waste of time, have we mixed good and evil with the Sabbath, perhaps we have dissolved meaning we ignore the command of God all together, have we allowed the world to start a fracture of our Sabbath with a wedge of the world, or are we using the Sabbath totally for our own pleasure. Consider the following Scripture as I end for today.
Isaiah 58:12-14 (NIV)
12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
13 “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
14 then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” The mouth of the LORD has spoken.
So, who is going to do the wonderful and needful things of the Kingdom of God in these last days? Repentance will open the door not just into our individual lives for healing but for the Lord to heal our land.
Lord willing, I will pick upright here tomorrow. Remember the Lord is really good, He is for you and stands with you, are we choosing Him.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
