THOU SHALT BE BROUGHT DOWN

Greetings dearly beloved of the Lord and welcome back to the Study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. You have a very important role in this Ministry, in the Kingdom of God. Each of us have a vital role, that all the parts of the body work to maximum efficiency to increase the harvest and fruits of the Kingdom. The featured picture is a wonderful autumn landscape sadly with a deteriorating barn, one of my favorite times of year in Maine. No doubt there was a time when this old barn was full of life, full of fruitfulness but today only a reminder of what once was. What an awful image of the modern Church. People have meticulously recorded this deterioration since the first century like it was the will of God. There has been progressive fragmentation, corruption of the gospel, and only sporadic and very short-term demonstrations of the will of God, for example the Azusa Street Revival.
I was recently introduced to a quote attributed to H. B. Clendenin and have introduced it to you. It goes like this; “We preach what revival brings rather than preaching what brings revival”. I have been very struck by this and must confess I too am guilty of looking more at the end result and enough at the necessary path to the end result. This does not mean I will stop teaching about what revival brings for we must have the reward, the carrot so to speak, in front of us. On the other hand, I will not neglect the path to revival coupled with what brings revival. What does not bring revival is doing the same thing over and over again thinking we are going to obtain a different result, that is to say, revival. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah and continue reading out loud.
Isaiah 29:1-4 (KJV)
1 Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.
2 Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be unto me as Ariel.
3 And I will camp against thee round about, and will lay siege against thee with a mount, and I will raise forts against thee.
4 And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.
As I outlined yesterday and have many many times, Israel has gone through many ups, periods of righteousness, obedience, and downs, periods of disobedience and the awful consequences. No different with the Church. Just think about the terrible atrocities of man upon man since the Garden of Eden to this very day. None of these, let me reiterate, none, zero of those or are the will of God. They, all of them, were the choices of people who thought they had a better way and their accomplice was a complacent weak people of God. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Who has authority in the earth? Have we not read the Holy Scripture teaching us that God has given the earth over to the hands of His people? Once again let’s look at a very important verse in Scripture, a command.
Matthew 16:19 (KJV)
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Remember the word ‘in’ before Heaven is also translated as ‘by’. Whose responsibility is it to speak and bind or loose? It is our responsibility! When we speak in faith who backs it up? God! Let’s look at this authorization and responsibility continued from the mouth of our Lord, our Savior in the Gods Word Translation.
Matthew 16:19 (GW)
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you imprison, God will imprison. And whatever you set free, God will set free.”
So, let me ask one more time, who is responsible for the messes in the earth? Now looking back at our primary text notice that God Himself becomes the enemy of the sinner (yes, the Church). The Lord of Hosts (preincarnate Jesus) says you will be destroyed, not because it is His will, but because of sin, rebellion. He assures them that they are going down into the dirt, death, and their blood will be crying from the ground like Able.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
