TRADITIONS, LIES, and TRUTH – PART FORTY-NINE
DECEPTION

Greetings my very dear friends and partners and welcome back to this series titled “Traditions, Lies, and Truth” where we ask the Lord to help us discern between the Truth and everything else. The year is rushing by, Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror and Christmas is but a few day ahead. As we close on Christmas let us discipline our minds to focus on the celebration of Christ and not the other things however wonderful they may be. Our families, the dinner, the fellowship, and the gifts are important, exciting, and have their place but nothing comes close to the importance of the birth of our Savior. This teaching has its origins in the Garden of Eden some six thousand years ago when the father of lies, of deception, deceived Eve. In the age’s past, perhaps billions of years ago, the Triune co-equal God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). Perhaps many creations or renovations of the original heavens and the earth have followed this original creation until the current one. At some point there was great destruction ending in a great chaos (Genesis 1:2). This destruction and chaos appear to have come about due to the rebellion of Lucifer and one third of the angels with him.
Lucifer rebelled against God, there was war in Heaven, and he was forcibly expelled from Heaven. You can study this a little further in Isaiah chapter fourteen, Jeremiah chapter four, and Revelation chapter twelve. Jesus said He saw Satan fall as lightening from Heaven to earth.

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
What about the use of the word lightning? Consider the following verse.
Ezekiel 28:13 (KJV)
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
We see here that Lucifer was clothed with precious stones. His God given clothing (precious stones) was removed on his entry into the earth’s atmosphere. These stones were not spiritual stones but natural stones which came from the earth. Lucifer appears to have been a ruler in the earth and perhaps the highest of the archangels in Heaven. Had Satan (the adversary, Lucifer fallen), retained this natural body he would have authority in the earth independent of man. Now all of Satan’s authority comes from man. He rules (as god of this world) by deception. Satan is dependent upon our words to fulfill his will of death (in every sphere of life) for all of us. Satan and his hoards are naked and they are constantly looking for a body to inhabit to cover that nakedness. Their ultimate goal is to possess and control us for their own destructive purposes. Satan is all about control by deception and rebellion against God, and God is all about freedom by Truth and obedience to the Truth. Remember this as you watch events unfold in this country and around the world.
How did Satan come to be in such a mess? The simple answer is self-deception. Just read Isaiah 14:12-17, and you will find that Lucifer thought he could be like the Most High. Lucifer uses the word “I will” five times in this passage. He had gone from saying to God, “your will be done” to “my will be done”. What about you and me? Are we pursuing the will of God or just going about our business as if God does not exist except Church on Sunday? Lucifer had an imagination, a thought that was not of God which he failed to take captive and cast down. Rather he entertained the high thing and acted upon it with disastrous effects. Lucifer did not have a deceiver but having been created as a freewill being was able to think any thought possible. Perhaps evil or the potential for evil has existed as long as God and Lucifer had that knowledge. The problem is not knowing about evil it is the partaking of evil. Afterall, one would have to know what was evil in order to not partake of it or enter into evil. Like us he was to cast down all unrighteousness. Now Satan, Lucifer fallen, has become the deceiver of mankind starting in the Garden of Eden to this day. Satan is the father, the author of deception, a liar from the beginning. One way or another all deception originates with him. We all must very seriously consider, understand and do the following verse.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (KJV)
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
All sin, all deceptions, arise first in our minds. They all originate with the devil and come to us through the traditions of men and the doctrines of demons observed and passed on by men (people). We have the responsibility to identify these imaginations, these thoughts that are contrary to the Word of God. We must take them captive and cast them out of our thought life. We have the capacity and the responsibility to control our thoughts. Dear ones, sin doesn’t just happen, we chose to sin. We chose how much deception to have in our lives. The way we avoid deception, avoid sin, is by praying always, and being diligent to study of the Word of God. Then we must choose the Word of God and not another word like Adam and Eve in the Garden. Let us not be slack but diligent knowing the will of God.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Let us be diligent to renew our minds to the Word of God displacing the ways of the world. The word “prove” in the preceding text also means to discern or allow. Let us discern and allow the will of God in our lives.
