TRADITIONS, LIES, and TRUTH – PART TWENTY-FIVE
RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH
Saturday – July 6, 2019, Tamuz 3, 5779
Greetings my dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, the Lord Jesus Christ, and welcome back to this wonderful, in depth, powerful, and freeing Bible Study of what one might call sacred cows in the Church. These sacred cows are traditions of men without a Biblical foundation, and doctrines of demons which sound right but are very wrong. Some may retort that it is a matter of opinion or that they just don’t see it that way, however, that in and of itself is a falsehood. We should strive to let every fact be established by two or three different witnesses. That is to say we should not use two or three Scriptures all written by the same human author but by different human authors. Consider the following rather lengthy series of Scriptures before we move forward.
2 Peter 1:19-21 (KJV)
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The Apostle Peter is telling us here that fulfilled Prophecy is a more sure proof than an eyewitness account. This is very important because many false doctrines in the Church are the result of things observed but not as spoken of or established in Scripture. The Scripture is all too often interpreted to reflect what is observed and not the full counsel of Scripture or the context of the Scripture is ignored. For example, Jesus said that there would always be poor people among us (Matthew 26:11 and others). The Church then developed the teaching is that it is noble even the will of God for some people to be poor.
2 Timothy 2:14-16 (KJV)
14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
Reading a chapter in the Bible a day or just reading the Bible without meditation is not study. To study one must review cross references, confirming the meaning of various words in English, the meaning from the original language, be it Hebrew (Old Testament) or Greek (New Testament) and much more. We are commanded, we have a non-negotiable commandment to study and rightly divide the Word of Truth. Not rightly dividing the Word of Truth is profane and vain babblings which increase ungodliness. The very worst kind of ungodliness is the Christian or religious person who is adherent to the traditions of men and the doctrine of demons. Traditions of men could include for example a set order of service. The doctrine of devils is any Word of God that is perverted even in the slightest. Even the slightest perversion or change makes it not the Word of God. It will then be devoid of power and result in stealing, killing, and destroying in our lives of those who receive that word or teaching. Meditate on the following verse.
1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV)
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
These doctrines of devils sound really religious, Christian, and in fact will have sometimes great bodies of Scripture that seemingly support the doctrine. On close examination the context or some other aspect will be wrong or may not even be talking about the same thing. This is seductive because it is believed by the Church, even our friends, and has been accepted as Truth with no research. Jesus addresses the issue.
Mark 7:7-9 (KJV)
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
These traditions, doctrines sound good but they are only a form of godliness, not godliness and devoid of power. God will backup the Word but He will not confirm false doctrine whether it be the doctrine of devils or the tradition of men.
2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
