WORDS AND FAITH
Thursday – June 14, 2018, Tamuz 1, 5778

Spring is sprung in Maine; the featured picture today was taken of my home on the 21st of May. The bushes are in beautiful blossoms and the bees are busy and there is a Hummingbird that comes every morning during my prayer time. My office and prayer room are behind those windows just to the left of the front entrance. Welcome back to this faith building study taken from the Book of Hebrews. We are now in the faith chapter studying the Faith Hall of Fame. We find this Faith Hall of Fame full of people just like us. These are all imperfect peoples but they chose to believe God and did exploits for our God, for the Kingdom of God. As we prepare to move back into the study lets read our primary text aloud.
Hebrews 11:32-34 (KJV)
32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Yesterday we studied about Jephthae (Jephthah). We saw how he was born of a harlot, run off by his family but in the time of need they called upon him and by the Anointing of God saved his nation. However, in the process of that he uttered careless words that could not be taken back. These careless words cost his only child, a daughter, her life. I reminded us of the words and fear of Job and the huge cost that was to him and those around him. These are powerful lessons to guard our mouths at all times. The words that Job spoke due to fear, the words that Jephthah spoke before God were Covenant words and cannot be revoked. The words of the Blood Covenant God (benefits and obligations laid out in the Bible) has made and we accepted are not revocable. We must very carefully consider the words of our mouths. Those of you who have been following these teachings for any length of time know that the worlds were formed by the Words of God, and likewise our world is formed by the words of our mouth. Whatever our individual situations are at this moment they are the fruit of our thoughts, lips (words), and actions. Of course, realize that those around us can also have a very negative or positive impact upon us depending on the world they are building and maintaining. Apparently, Job’s children were not serving the Lord so when Job sinned the wall not only around him but all that he had including his children came down and all was fair game for the enemy according to the judgment of God.
Now, let’s look at another example of how careless words resulted in the death of a loved one. Recall that Jacob later named Israel by God married two daughters of Laban. He worked seven years for the younger daughter Rachel however Laban acted fraudulently and gave him Leah the older daughter. Jacob then had to work another seven years for Laban in order to marry Rachel the one whom he loved. After twenty-one years Jacob leaves Laban in secret heading back to the Promised Land but unknown to Jacob the wife he loves has stolen some of Laban’s idols. When Laban discovers this he pursues, overtakes, and confronts Jacob. Listen to Jacobs’ careless words. No wonder he would later tell Pharaoh that his years were few and evil.
Genesis 31:30-32 (KJV)
30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
Just a short time later these words of Jacob come to pass.
Genesis 35:16-19 (KJV)
16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
Rachel bore two of the twelve male children who became the patriarchs of the tribes of Israel. Jacob and Rachel’s first child was Joseph and the second and final child was Benjamin. Rachel named this child Benoni which means son of my sorrow however Jacob named this child Benjamin which means the son of my right hand. It is interesting that Rachel would die in Bethlehem (house of bread) giving birth to a child acquainted with sorrows and a son of my right hand. Bethlehem the very place where a man acquainted with sorrows who is the Bread of Life would be born some 2000 years later. This is in chapter thirty-five, thirty-five is the number of hope, and nineteen (verse) is the number of faith. Is the Word of God good or what? Lord willing, we will push on in our study tomorrow. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
2 Peter 1:2-4 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
