WORDS ARE POWER
Tuesday – June 6, 2017

Greetings and welcome back to our Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. Before we plunge back into this wonderful Book I want to remind all of us to pray for the many levels of government in these United States. The picture is of the United States Supreme Court. We have in this nation seriously lost our way but believe it or not we are returning to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to the Covenant of our foundation, an obligation to show the goodness of God and further the Christian faith. We are not to be like other nations, we are to be a Covenant Christian nation. Now to our primary text.
Hebrews 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
I left off yesterday in the midst of a discussion of the phrase “upholding all things by the word of his power”. This ‘upholding’ on the macro (grand scale) level involves the maintenance, the prevention of the total destruction of all created things. For example, the natural laws are intact because He says so however these physical natural things are growing old. On a micro level, there is also the maintenance of natural law which includes the rotting of our sandwich if we do not consume it fresh. On the whole, the Son is making sure that all natural law is doing as He established and we determined by sin. This earth was to function like Heaven however sin changed that with the introduction of the anti-blessing called the curse which allows, even demands things like the law of entropy. Sin is a corruption of God’s Word and sin brings corruption into everything it touches.
The Son is upholding our words. Remember we have the authority (natural and supernatural) in the earth. Whether our words which originate with our thoughts are good or bad the Son sees to it they are performed. That is not to say that He is doing the bad, He is ensuring there is not a failure of our words, the exercise of our authority. Any words which we speak in which we have faith are performed, perhaps not instantly but in time. We also can speak words in which we do not have faith (idle) and these are not performed and accomplish nothing for the Kingdom of God. Scripture tells us we are accountable for all our idle words.
Matthew 12:35-37 (KJV)
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Idle words are like the lukewarm state that Jesus said He would spew out of His mouth. Lukewarm Christians accomplish nothing just like idle words. Using the rule or information I presented yesterday about the word ‘thing’ being substituted for the word ‘word’ let’s look at this text. Jesus is saying that the thoughts of our heart (soul) will bring forth words (which are spirit and creative). Our thoughts leading to spoken words which we really believe will create and maintain all the things of our individual lives. So, as we individually look around at our lives like our finances, our health, our ministry, and our families what do we see and why do we wonder how it got that way when the Scripture is clear, it is what we have created, what we believe. Remember, whatever is not of faith, faith in God, faith in the Word of God, is sin.
From our text of Hebrews 1:3 the word ‘word’ is rhēma according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. We could say anointed word, anointed of the Holy Spirit. Anointed Words are uttered in obedience to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. This is why we can listen to two different people speak of the same passages of Scripture and one be dry, dull, and dead and the other alive with the fire of the Holy Spirit. The power referred to in our text is the power (Greek word transliterated to English as dynamis) of God (Holy Spirit). I wonder what the limits of that power might be. How vast is the creation and what is the number of interactions occurring at any given moment? I suspect the number is beyond the trillions and the Words of the Son empowered by the Holy Spirit are seeing to it that all natural and supernatural law is being obeyed, functioning as designed or as perverted by the sin of mankind. Wow, the power of Holy Spirit led Words is infinite in the direction of good. Even though all things created would vanish back to the stuff of the spiritual realm the maintenance of this physical realm is a real benefit to all of mankind for it gives us opportunity to be a part of the Kingdom of God and not perish in Hell for eternity.
All created things are being maintained by the power of the Words of God and all of our words are being performed as well. Jesus, the Son, does not want to see us think things contrary to His will or to subsequently hear us speak them for He knows it brings more of the curse into our lives and perhaps even separate us from Him and the Father. We are freewill creations and He will insure that is honored. We choose the good, thoughts and words of life, life of God, or we choose the bad, the thoughts and words of death. We choose eternal life in the Kingdom of God or eternal death in Hell, the Kingdom of darkness. This should give us pause to consider our thoughts and our words. His Words are power, but so are our words power, the power of life, the power of death. One final thought, are the Words of God in the mouth of the Son more powerful than the same words in our mouth assuming they are spoken in faith, powered by love, led of the Spirit?
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
