Welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries and this ongoing study of 2nd John. What a book so rich with Truth from Heaven through this Apostle of love. Without further ado let’s plunge into our golden text.
2 John 1:3-5 (KJV)
3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
I will be continuing with verse three and the peace of God. Remember, when Jesus had been raised from the dead, the very first thing He said to the disciple was to receive His peace. Of all the things He could have said, He spoke to them of peace, told them to receive peace. First let’s look at a discussion Jesus had with His disciples (and us) before the Cross about peace.
John 14:23-27 (KJV)
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Do you see how this directly relates to our golden text? Not surprising since they are the same human writer flowing in the Anointing of the Holy Spirit at the direction of the Father. Here Jesus is talking about the Comforter but that is the same person, the same manifestations of 2nd John 1:3 called grace, mercy, and peace. Did you notice that this peace is inseparable from love, Godly love. This love is obedience to the Word, in selflessness, on the foundation of Blood Covenant with God. The peace that Jesus has given us is not worldly peace that can be shattered in a moment of time. This peace from Jesus is an unshakable peace based on our knowledge of and our unshakeable faith (fully persuaded) in the One who cannot be shaken. Now let’s look at what Jesus had to say just a few hours after and on the same day as His resurrection.
John 20:19-22 (KJV)
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
As I end for today let’s once again review the major components of this peace from God that augments our peace which is a part of our spirit man (Galatians 5:22-23). According to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary this peace means to be joined with another, prosperity, to be one or a unified whole (spirit, soul, and body), to have quietness/tranquility, rest or access to the full provision of God, and to be one with God again. What a deal!
TAKE HOME:
- Of all the things Jesus could have said to His disciples on Resurrection Day, He spoke to them of peace, told them to receive peace.
- The peace from God is inseparable from love, Godly love.
- Gods’ peace given to us and augmented, empowered by the Holy Spirit means to be joined with another, prosperity, to be one or a unified whole (spirit, soul, and body), to have quietness/tranquility, rest or access to the full provision of God, and to be one with God again. What a deal!
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
