ARE YOU WALKING IN BLOOD COVENANT

Today we will continue moving forward with our study of my book titled “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love”. This study is not about love as the world or even much of the Church defines or fails to define it. The love we are talking about is Divine love, of Divine origin and resident in the spirit of the born-again Christian. This love, like the other fruits of our spirit, are in an infant stage and must be developed by our will. Although these fruit are in an infant stage, they are the same as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are and express. They are love and express love and so do we. This is true for all of the fruit.
This Divine love (agapē/agapaō) is at its core obedience to Scripture; it is selfless in motive and walks cognizant of Blood Covenant with the Father. I briefly discussed eight different Greek words translated to English as love but are not the love we are talking about and developing in our lives. Absent an understanding of this love, we cannot love God as He loves us, we can’t love our neighbor in a Scriptural way, nor can we love ourselves.
I will be presenting ten points that apply equally to Blood Covenant sometimes referred to as a “cutting” of a Covenant. These points apply to the Marriage Covenant and other Contracts. These ten points I am about to share were abstracted from E. W. Kenyon’s book titled, “The Blood Covenant”. Each point is fully supported by Scripture.
- In a blood covenant, a weaker party covenants with a stronger and that is certainly the case with us and God (Matthew 26:28). Generally, in a marriage the man is physically and perhaps in other ways like financially the stronger party (1 Peter 3:7).
- The blood covenant establishes equality between the parties. Scripture says that we are the sons of God (1 John 3:1). God called Abraham His friend (James 2:23). Equality between husband and wife is established upon the confirmation of the Covenant or Contract with the exchange of rings and vows. They become a separate family, and help meets one of the other. A help meet is one ideally suited to come along side and aid the other in their assignments. So, it is when we join the family of God, we become a help meet with Christ and He with us.
- The blood covenant is perpetual or eternal and so is God’s covenant with the Church and with Israel (Genesis 9:16, Hebrews 13:20). Divorce is not a God approved option (Matthew 5:32, Mark 10:1-12). Listen to the following verses and don’t get hung up on that they are Old Testament, the Lord changes not.
Malachi 2:15-16 (AMP)
15 And did not God make [you and your wife] one [flesh]? Did not One make you and preserve your spirit alive? And why [did God make you two] one? Because He sought a godly offspring [from your union]. Therefore take heed to yourselves, and let no one deal treacherously and be faithless to the wife of his youth.
16 For the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I hate divorce and marital separation and him who covers his garment [his wife] with violence. Therefore keep a watch upon your spirit [that it may be controlled by My Spirit], that you deal not treacherously and faithlessly [with your marriage mate].
Malachi 2:15-16 (TLB)
15 You were united to your wife by the Lord. In God’s wise plan, when you married, the two of you became one person in his sight. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. Therefore, guard your passions! Keep faith with the wife of your youth.
16 For the Lord, the God of Israel, says he hates divorce and cruel men. Therefore, control your passions—let there be no divorcing of your wives.
- This blood covenant is indissoluble, unbreakable. The Word of God stands no matter the actions of a person (John 10:35). For the flesh and the unrenewed mind the fact that the Blood Covenant is immutable is at times very inconvenient but at the same time if we will just keep marching it is also an impenetrable defense. If married couples will walk in love (agapē/agapaō) and the requirements of Blood Covenant they will have heaven on earth, always walking as one.
- The blood covenant is honored in succeeding generations. Over and over in Scripture we see God honoring His covenant, for example, with David and his descendants (1 Kings 15:4). And so, the families of both parties to a marriage are to honor and fiercely defend and support that Covenant in succeeding generations.
- Breaking the blood covenant leads to death, Scripture says that the wages of sin (breaking covenant) are death (Romans 6:23). There may not be the physical death of one or both parties, but things will die. The ripple effect, like a stone thrown in the water, effects everything in both lives, both families, and for generations there are evil consequences.
We will finish up with the Blood Covenant aspect of love (agapē/agapaō) when we resume next week.
