A GREAT LIGHT

Greetings dear friends and partners of Eastern Gate Ministries International, Inc. and welcome back to our Bible Study blog currently studying the Bible Book of Isaiah. What a wonderful Book filled with Messianic Prophecy, as well as Messianic types and shadows. Messianic is referring to the Messiah Who is none other than Christ our Lord and Savior. Is He both our Lord and our Savior? Many are happy to have a Savior but not so crazy about a Lord. Let that not be me! Please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the Truth. The featured picture today is of Donna and me at one of our favorite local San Antonio restaurants (Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant). Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and read it out loud, yes, out loud. You know why!
Isaiah 9:1-4 (KJV)
1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
As you can see, we are coming into more Messianic Scripture. Remember that Isaiah was not written in chapter and verse nor with punctuation, that has all been added by the translators. With that in mind let’s take a moment and review the end of Chapter eight in the New Living Translation.
Isaiah 8:20 (NLT)
20 Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
21 They will go from one place to another, weary and hungry. And because they are hungry, they will rage and curse their king and their God. They will look up to heaven
22 and down at the earth, but wherever they look, there will be trouble and anguish and dark despair. They will be thrown out into the darkness.
The Lord speaking through His Prophet is talking about a wayward people looking everywhere but to Him. But then He reminds them there is One coming, “a great light” who will change everything. Let’s look at it in the Complete Jewish Bible.
Isaiah 9:2-4 (CJB)
2 The people living in darkness have seen a great light; upon those living in the land that lies in the shadow of death, light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice in your presence as if rejoicing at harvest time, the way men rejoice when dividing up the spoil.
4 For the yoke that weighed them down, the bar across their shoulders, and their driver’s goad you have broken as on the day of Midyan[’s defeat].
Here we see the will of God concerning His people, the Israelites, but as we know they would not receive the light that dawned. As you may know we see another reference to the ‘yoke’ in the very next chapter referring to its removal by the Anointing.
Isaiah 10:27 (KJV)
27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
The Hebrews, children of Israel, rejected the Messiah the first time but the time is coming during the Great Tribulation when they will recognize Him and all that is said and we enjoy will be theirs as well. All of the surviving remnant of Israel from the holocaust of the Great Tribulation will be saved and be a nation before God forever. Now, let’s take a look at a Messianic passage which is part and parcel of many Christmas teachings.
Isaiah 9:5-7 (KJV)
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Monday and we will explore these wonderful verses in some detail.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, doubt it not, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
