FRIDAY NUGGETS
WHAT ABOUT FOOD? – PART TWO

Greetings dear ones in the Lord and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog today talking about food. Before we delve into this topic, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing, you are important to the Kingdom of God and to this Ministry.
At one time or another we have all heard preaching, teachings, discussions or read articles about whether it is approved of God today to eat any and all foods. I understand there are strong feelings, beliefs, within the Christian community (body of Christ) and among other major religions like Judaism and Islam concerning what is permissible to eat and what is not. I believe the Lord will help us to understand. The answers may not be simple black and white, yes and no answers. Let’s once again review our primary text from last week. Many times, the quick answer that all foods are permissible for us today comes from the following Bible text.
Acts 10:9-16 (KJV)
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
It is easy to see how this passage on its own could be used to seemingly and solidly establish all of the Old Testament, Levitical Laws, concerning foods to now be void, but is that so? We backed up a bit and starting (last week) looking at the chapter as a whole and the context. At the beginning of this 10th chapter, we see Cornelius a Centurion (commander in the Roman Army) having a vision and commanded to send for the Apostle Peter who would tell them, the Gentiles, what they must do. Now, let’s look once again at how Peter interpreted his dream.
Acts 10:28 (KJV)
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
The Apostle Peter’s interpretation had nothing to do with foods but people groups, the Jews and Gentiles. With advent of Abraham (first Jew) there were two people groups in the earth, the Jew and the Gentile. With the Resurrection of Christ there are three people groups, the Jew, the Gentile, and the Church.
1 Corinthians 10:32 (KJV)
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
Peter goes on to reiterate that God has now made a way for the Gentiles into the Kingdom and they are no longer to be considered common or unclean. Still nothing about food.
Acts 10:34-35 (KJV)
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
What happened when Peter preached to the Gentiles?
Acts 10:44-48 (KJV)
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Thank you, Jesus, that we Gentiles were included in the redemption! Next week I will pick up right here and plan to close this discussion concerning foods.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
