Tuesday – September 5, 2023, Elul 19, 5784
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to this instructive study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. The Lord is so good to give a light to our path. Our God discloses the good, the bad, and the really ugly side of those who declare or have declared Him as their God. Before proceeding, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing.
The featured picture today is a reminder to pray for the seven pillars of society. The people of God are supposed to occupy, to dominate these pillars bringing a powerful influence of righteousness to every segment of society. Let me ask a question. Where else are you hearing this? The Church has systematically lied to the people of God developing doctrines based on observation of lives not based in obedience to Scripture. Many have been taught that everything is spiritual and it is for the sweet bye and bye. Many believe that God will meet our needs but not to expect much of anything beyond that until Glory. Is that what the Bible teaches? Is that what Jesus taught? I hope you know that the resounding answer to both questions is NO! Think about the most useful inventions of the last several years, how many were developed by Christians? How many billionaire Christians do you know about as opposed to billionaire heathen? All things (spiritual and physical) are ours so let’s start occupying our assignments by faith in love. God will do the rest.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud. You know why, please don’t be a rebellious little sheep.
Isaiah 45:1-4 (KJV)
1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4 For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
As I discussed yesterday God always has someone to raise up to free His people from bondage and they are not always of the righteous. Isn’t that a rather pitiful testimony? We can see from our text that God has already chosen a future Persian King by the name of Cyrus to start the process of bringing restoration to His people. First there will be the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem by Zerubbabel under Cyrus and later under Artaxerxes Nehemiah will rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and govern Judah. God tells His people through the Prophet Isaiah that kingdoms will bow before this future leader and this man, Cyrus, will gather great wealth. All of that for the sake of Jacob His servant and Israel His elect.
Let’s deal for just a moment with the terms “Jacob His servant and Israel His elect”. Which one are you, which one am I? You will recall that Jacob was the given name and second born of twins born to Isaac and Rebekah. The name Israel means to rule as God and to be the elect means to be chosen. Chosen by whom? God Himself. What would the other side of the coin be? Jacob the deceiver, the one who supplants would rule as Satan. Which one is the will of God. Right from the making of Adam it was the will of God that mankind would rule the earth as God in the place of God. So where are Gods’ people in this today?
