Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our study of the Bible Book of Jude. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The Lord is good. Remember, we study not just read the Word of God and we do it to renew our minds so that we are conformed to Him and not the world. This is not some religious exercise to be checked off for the day. We either live by the Word of God or the word of the world and you know where those came from. When our spiritual enemies present us with lying thoughts, words, and circumstances with the Word of God we are well able to resist and fling them aside, trampling on them (the lying thoughts, words, and circumstances).
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJV)
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
If we will be attentive the Lord will and has provided the weapons (Word of God) needed for every attack, before the attack. Our God is good, He will not hang us out to dry. We many times hang ourselves out to dry by not being attentive to the Words God brings to us day in and day out and make them our own. Now let’s pivot to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, yes, out loud, you know why.
Jude 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Today I am moving into verse two of our primary Bible text. Notice this is a salutation but it is more than that, it is a command for mercy, peace, and love to be multiplied in their lives. Will these things happen automatically in the individual being greeted? No, they will not! Nothing happens automatically or independent of the person to whom it happens. Things don’t just happen, they are the result of our choices, whether it be good from God, evil from our spiritual enemies, or our own worldly choices. Now, let’s take a look at verse two in various other Bible translations.
Jude 1:2 (NIV)
2 Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.
Jude 1:2 (NLT)
2 May God give you more and more mercy, peace, and love.
The text would imply that these are just poured out by God with no input from us, the receiver. Mercy, is one having pity upon us, having compassion that is dependent upon the giver not the receiver. The most significant and by far meaningful expression of mercy has come from our Father God in Christ Jesus.
Luke 1:77-79 (KJV)
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
The word “dayspring” means a rising of light, dawn, east, rising according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Wherever one might be on the planet, the sun always rises in the east. This of course is talking of the coming of Jesus the Christ, the Messiah. I will close for this week with the following passage but we are far from done with this verse.
John 1:1-5 (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week.
