Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our study of the Bible Book of Jude. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The Lord is good. Remember, we study, not just read, the Word of God and we do it to renew our minds so that we are conformed to Him and not the world. Renewing of the mind involves displacing (Law of Displacement) the ideas of the world (by extension Satan) and replace them with the ideas of God. This is not some religious exercise to be checked off for the day. We either live by the Word of God or the word of the world and you know where the words of the world came from. When our spiritual enemies present us with lying thoughts, words, and circumstances, with the Word of God we are well able to resist and fling them aside, trampling on them (the lying thoughts, words, and circumstances).
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJV)
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
If we will be attentive the Lord will and has provided the weapons (Word of God) needed for every attack, before the attack. Our God is good, He will not hang us out to dry. We many times hang ourselves out to dry by not being attentive to the Words God brings to us day in and day out, making them our own. Now let’s pivot to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, yes, out loud, you know why.
Jude 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Today I am going to center up again on the idea, the reality, the force of peace. First you will recall that mercy is given, it is not earned, it is much like favor or grace of God. Like love (agapē) it is given without any hint of getting payback. When we look at “peace” we find that it can be a noun or a verb. That is to say it is something we are, we possess, or something we express. Peace is a fruit of the spirit, our spirit, and is much more than a tranquil or calm feeling. Peace like everything else spiritual or natural must be exercised, practiced to increase and mature. The Apostle Peter tells us that a major way that peace is increased is by knowledge of God and of Jesus.
2 Peter 1:2 (KJV)
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
One must know what peace is in the context of the Kingdom of God as opposed to the world’s peace. Listen to the words of Jesus (you are reading out loud, right).
John 14:27 (KJV)
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
So, we see that when we don’t develop our peace our minds can become agitated, stirred up, and with that comes fear. God is not the author of confusion (a stirred-up mind) and He is certainly not the author of fear. Our God is the author of love (agapē). Remember Scripture tells us that perfected love (agapē) casts out fear for fear has torment (1 John 4:18). The Greek word transliterated to English as peace is eirēnē meaning to be joined, prosperity, one, quietness, rest, and set at one again according to the Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. You see there are six components to peace. I heard one preacher describe peace as nothing missing and nothing broken. That pretty well sums it up. I will speak a little more about peace next Saturday, next month. Remember knowledge is king and when exercised our peace will be strengthened. This is important for peace is both a defensive and offensive weapon.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week.
