Greetings dear and precious friends and saints and welcome back to this teaching from 1st John. Going forward I believe the Lord will have us examine Second and Third John as well. It seems that this year is passing at light speed, in just a few day we celebrate Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then it is 2024. Are we following hard after the Lord making the best use of our time? Please take a moment and share this, and all other teachings, as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The Lord is so good, to give us His Word, to shine light on His abundant path for our lives. Before I move to our primary Bible text, let me remind you all of two things. Now let’s turn our full attention to our primary Bible text for today. Are you reading out loud?
1 John 1:5-10 (KJV)
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Have we asked ourselves, have we asked the Lord if there is sin, darkness, in our lives? There really is no such thing as little sin or great sin, it all brought Jesus to Calvary. Let’s start to consider verse eight once again. Perhaps all of us are familiar with the following Scripture.
John 8:32 (KJV)
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The Truth which is the Word of God will make us free, free from what? Free from darkness placing us fully in the light. Let’s review once again the first mention of darkness is Genesis 1:2 and the second Genesis 1:5 meaning misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, or wickedness. Anyone really want any of this in our life? Of course not! However, in deception we may plunge headlong into darkness. How do we avoid deception? The leadership of the Holy Spirit within and studying and doing (which is love) the Holy Scripture.
Romans 8:14 (KJV)
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Are you a son of God?
John 14:15 (KJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Do I, do you, truly love the Lord?
