ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IS SIN

Greetings precious children of God and welcome back to this engaging, instructive, empowering study of the Book of First John. As I am sure you know, we are nearing the end of this particular Book. As you know the Apostle John, the Apostle of love wrote (by the unction of the Holy Spirit) the Gospel of John, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John (collectively called the little Johns), and the Book of Revelation. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today.
1 John 5:14-18 (KJV)
14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
Today we will dive into verse sixteen and beyond. This brings us into a controversial topic; “what is the sin unto death?” Perhaps you have heard it as the unpardonable sin. The following series of Scriptures deal with sin without remedy.
Numbers 15:30 (KJV)
30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
The key it seems to me lies in the word “presumptuously”, this is sin, disobedience with full knowledge but thinking “I can repent later”. Dear ones let’s guard ourselves, our thought life, seek the Lord with all diligence that we fall not into deception and are lost all the while thinking we are saved. It is a fearful thing to trample the Blood underfoot.
Hebrews 6:4-6 (KJV)
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
In verse six the phrase “if they shall fall away” seems rather passive but on closer examination it is willful turning away from Truth. The Father takes the Blood, the sacrifice of Jesus very seriously. A person does not end up in this position accidentally.
Hebrews 10:25-28 (KJV)
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Lord willing, I will pick up right here in two weeks, next Friday is Good Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
