NEITHER THE PRACTICE OF SIN NOR IDOLATRY ARE THE WAY OF THE BORN AGAIN

Greetings dear friends, partners, passersby, and welcome back to the study of the Bible Book of 1st John. This is one of the five Books of the Bible authored by the Apostle John, the Apostle of love. This Book has been heavy on love (agapē/agapaō), light (revealed Word), and now sin (the way of Satan). At this time let’s shift our attention to our primary Bible text reading out loud.
1 John 5:18-21 (KJV)
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
For just a moment I want to look again at verse eighteen and the phrase “he that is begotten of God keepeth himself”. Who keeps him/her? They themselves! How? Don’t sin! We answer the temptations of the wicked ones, of the world, our own lusts and pride that tries to rise up in our lives with the Word of God. Notice we don’t feel that we are in God, we know we are in God and we know that all that is not of God is wickedness. How do we know we are in God and He in us? Because we seek after Him, after His ways, and we fear Him, not wanting to fail Him by sinning.
The Son of God is Jesus, He is the Light that has come and gives light to all peoples born into the earth.
John 1:9-12 (KJV)
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The “true light” is Christ Jesus and He gives light (the Word), conviction of the Holy Spirit, to every person. No one will have an excuse for rejecting Him in the final judgment (Romans 1:20). Isn’t it awesome that when we received Him, believed on His name we were given the authority to become a son of God. Instantly out of darkness into His marvelous Light. There is One true God and that is the Father and the Son and we are helped all along by the Eternal Spirit (Holy Spirit). Eternal life is found in no other, only in the Son. The Holy Spirit calls (convicts) on behalf of the Father, and when we believe upon the Son, the name above every name, we are born again entering into eternal life by the quickening power of the Holy Spirit.
I think Johns final words in this letter are telling. Tells us perhaps the greatest danger in our lives.

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
Remember, an idol is anyone, anything, any activity that we allow or cause to come between us and God, to come first at anytime, for any reason.
This concludes our study of First John, Lord willing we will pick up from here with more energizing bread of life. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
