Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this wonderful and enlightening study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. These are not just interesting stories of an ancient people; this is for our learning that we not repeat history.
Romans 15:3-4 (KJV)
3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (Bold added)
Please take a moment and share this teaching and all the teachings from this Ministry to broaden our (and your) reach with the Truth. The Truth is sadly lacking in the body of Christ. I may not be talking about just the Church down the street. The featured picture today is an early spring picture in Pittsfield Maine by a Joe Getchell Jr, a faithful man of God.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 52:4-7 (NIV)
4 For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “At first my people went down to Egypt to live; lately, Assyria has oppressed them.
5 “And now what do I have here?” declares the LORD. “For my people have been taken away for nothing, and those who rule them mock,” declares the LORD. “And all day long my name is constantly blasphemed.
6 Therefore my people will know my name; therefore in that day they will know that it is I who foretold it. Yes, it is I.”
7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
Yesterday I talked about the sojourn of the Israelites, seventy in number, who went into Egypt but were quickly taken into slavery by the Egyptians. Remember that Egypt is a type and shadow of the world, the world system. When we go into the world system and stay, they will swallow us up and enslave us, this is where the Church is today. Remember Abram did the same thing but God told Isaac explicitly not to do the same thing. God prospered Isaac mightily, over the top and beyond, for his obedience in a dry land.
Genesis 26:1-2 (KJV)
1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Genesis 26:12-14 (KJV)
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
What a mighty witness of the love and power of our God. Looking back at our primary text the Lord mentions the oppression of the Assyrians. You will recall that this occurred because of the rebellion, idolatry in Israel. Sin, idolatry crept in became they became unequally yoked marrying women not of Israel. This is the equivalent of a Christian marrying, dating, going into business with someone who is not a Christian.
2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
There was a judgment obtained in Heaven and the Assyrians was the hand that administered that judgment. Unrepented sin always has negative consequences both here and after our physical eyes close in death. For the Christian, repented sin can still have consequences that has to be walked out but God has a way of bringing good into those situations. The Assyrians however went to far and brought judgment upon themselves.
2 Kings 19:34-36 (KJV)
34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, the Lord is good, nothing but good, and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
