Welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries and our ongoing study of The Kingdom of God and repentance. This is an extraordinarily important study. This was the main theme in the Ministry of Jesus in the earth and therefore it seems to me has paramount importance for our lives. Let’s go now to our anchor Scripture for this series.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
I have asked many times, “Are we doing this?” Do we recognize this as a command, a doable command. The Lord give no unjust commands. Our Kingdom of God assignments and doing them His way are the primary aim of our lives. This is absolutely upside down to the world’s thinking and quite frankly many Christians. Many Christians seem to have a partitioned life. What one might call their regular life and then their Christian or Sunday life. That is a monstrous lie of Satan, it is all one life. I will now move to our lengthy text for this teaching which I hope is familiar and is about forgiveness, forgiving others and being forgiven. First remember this from what has come to be called the Lord’s Prayer.
Matthew 6:14-15 (KJV)
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Just from this one passage I hope we can all see that unforgiveness in our lives is very serious business. Known and unrepented sin in our lives is an open door for the enemy who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. When the Father forgives it is in faith and love, and He does not remember it and certainly does not talk about it again following forgiveness. That is true forgiveness, and we too are capable of that same forgiveness. Perhaps you have heard it said, “I’ll forgive you, but I won’t forget”. Well, that is not forgiveness and leaves you open to the enemy. Now, this does not mean we are to be a doormat. For example, you loaned someone money and they didn’t pay you back, you are to forgive, but you are not obligated to loan to them again. Or perhaps you told someone something in absolute confidence and they betrayed that confidence. Yes, you are to forgive but don’t share your heart with them again. Do you see? Now, let’s read this text and meditate as you go.
Matthew 18:21-35 (KJV)
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
I trust you have had ears to hear and light has come.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
