SNAKES, SONS OF VIPERS, PREACH RELIGIOUS LAWS

Greeting children of God and welcome to Awake, Arise, and Triumph Ministries. Today I am continuing our in-depth study of the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. This was the major theme of Jesus’ Ministry. Jesus either taught how the Kingdom worked or demonstrated how the Kingdom worked and how it didn’t work. Really if you give it some thought the whole of Scripture has to do with explaining the laws of the Kingdom and the consequences of obedience and disobedience. Yep, there are does and don’ts in the Kingdom of God like every other kingdom.
We are continuing Jesus’ teaching on the Kingdom of Heaven/God today from Matthew chapter twenty-three picking up verse twenty-nine. This is a lengthy passage, but I want to bring this particular teaching of His to a conclusion, I think we are getting the point. The point being to flee from the teaching of religious law which are the traditions of men and doctrines of demons. This leads to motives that are contrary to Scripture, contrary to Godly love, leads to wickedness. We are to seek out and cling to the Truth as if our life depends upon it for it does. Now, to our Scripture continuing in the NLT.
Matthew 23:29-36 (NLT)
29 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you build tombs for the prophets your ancestors killed, and you decorate the monuments of the godly people your ancestors destroyed.
30 Then you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would never have joined them in killing the prophets.’
Writers note: Do you hear the pride the arrogance in the place of repentance and humility?
31 “But in saying that, you testify against yourselves that you are indeed the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
32 Go ahead and finish what your ancestors started.
Writers note: Jesus seems to make the point that you really are no different than your ancestors. Remember, He is talking to us all but more specifically those teaching and practicing religious law. Again, religious law is the traditions of men and the doctrines of demons.
33 Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?
Writers note: This verse would lead us to believe they are not saved at all; they are not just inside the door in the foyer but still outside in darkness. This would lead us to think about the various cults, false religions in America and around the world. We cannot exclude those who are classified as Christian but teach another gospel, a religious law gospel which is not good news at all. It is not good news for it has no benefit in this life nor the next. That is the antithesis of Scripture.
34 “Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city.
35 As a result, you will be held responsible for the murder of all godly people of all time—from the murder of righteous Abel to the murder of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you killed in the Temple between the sanctuary and the altar.
36 I tell you the truth, this judgment will fall on this very generation.
Jesus is pretty straight forward don’t you think? We need way more of this clarity. All of us should be very aware of the Truth of verses thirty-four through verse thirty-six which included the killing of Jesus Himself.
TAKE HOME:
- Religious law people kill real Christians with their lips and physically.
- Those teaching and practicing religious law which is the traditions of men and the doctrines of demons in the eyes of Heaven are snakes, sons of vipers. Snakes and vipers are the sons of Satan which includes not only demons but those outside the Kingdom of God.
- Snakes, vipers, are venomous poisonous and bring destruction and death into your life. If it is not the gospel, not the Truth, it is religious law which is a lie, is of Satan and brings nothing but stealing, killing, and destroying into our lives.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
