RECEIVE THE KINGDOM OF GOD LIKE A CHILD

Greetings dear saints of God and others and welcome back to our exciting study of the Kingdom of God from the lips of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s go to our anchor text and then jump right into our study for today.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
We are commanded by our King and Lord to seek first the Kingdom of God and do things His way. So, what should we look to be doing immediately or continue to do? We should be seeking first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things. The Bible is replete with the ways of God, the ways of the Kingdom of God. Scripture also abounds with what is not the ways of God. All of our lives, every last bit but be done through the filter of the Scripture and as unto the Lord first. The Lord now has more instruction for us.
Luke 18:15-17 (ESV)
15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Let’s take a look at this in the Message Bible then discuss it.
Luke 18:15-17 (MSG)
15 People brought babies to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. When the disciples saw it, they shooed them off.
16 Jesus called them back. “Let these children alone. Don’t get between them and me. These children are the kingdom’s pride and joy.
17 Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.”
The children here represent all of us in the body of Christ. Even the most “mature” spiritually among us are still children in the eyes of God. And just as natural children range in age and capabilities from birth to maturity, so it is with spiritual children as well. By the way, maturity for children in the Jewish mind (they got this from God) is age thirteen the time of Bar Mitzvah when they are to be about the Father’s business. Seems we coddle our children both naturally and spiritually way too long.
What is the Master saying in our teaching? Think about the relationship of a natural child to their father (parents) and we see the picture of how it is to be in our relationship with God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). A child of all ages and capability is totally dependent upon the parent for provision of every type. From a very young age they are able to contribute to the family, the household, and represent the household in an honorable way. We see that Jesus is very protective of the children (you and me) and takes it personal when someone tries to come between them and Him.
We are to look first to our God for all things just as a child does in the natural. This includes clothing, housing, food, protection, education, and so on. Any of this sound familiar? Should, it is our anchor Scripture of Matthew 6:33 (that whole chapter). As I close let me remind you of the following passage.
Jeremiah 17:5-8 (ESV)
5 Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the LORD.
6 He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.
7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD.
8 He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
TAKE HOME:
- Don’t come between Jesus and the children of God no matter the age or maturity.
- We are all children of God and to God; none have arrived at the full stature of God and never will.
- Be blessed (empowered and happy) put your trust in the Lord.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
