BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS

Greetings and welcome to Part Three of this teaching series on “Knowledge of the Truth”. This series will focus on the Truth, Divine Truth, and the importance of increasing our knowledge day by day. As we move forward, I want to remind us of a statement I made two days ago. This type of knowledge is not just knowing or having information about a thing but must be acquired by active pursuit and practice of the knowledge. Epignosis sits over, is superior to, and is the very core of knowledge and it is a functional knowledge, producing fruitfulness and multiplication. Being successful in the Kingdom of God is really no different than gaining success in the natural world. Where do you think these ideas come from that we acknowledge in this natural world? It is true that the devil has perverted many, but this came from God. Now let’s deal with the Joshua Scripture we started yesterday. Since it is a lengthy passage I will comment after each verse however keep the whole of context in mind.
Joshua 1:5-9 (KJV)
5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Authors comment: For Joshua and for us to know how God was with Joshua we would have to study the life of Moses in Scripture. God makes Joshua a promise that no man will be able to stand before him or withstand him all the days of his life. It would be a mistake for us or for Joshua to take those words as not having qualifiers.
6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
Authors comment: God commands Joshua and us to be strong and of good courage. This is not talking about muscular strength but strong in the Lord, in his faith in his knowledge of the Truth. God did not say in this verse or those to follow that He would make him or us strong and give the courage needed. It is our faith in our knowledge of the Truth that produces strength and courage.
7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
Authors comment: Here we see that strength and courage is directly connected with strict obedience to the Word of God. One cannot be too obedient.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Authors comment: Did you catch the fact that Scripture is to dominate our thoughts and therefore our speech. That does not mean we go around quoting Scripture, but it does mean that what we think, what we say, and what we do agrees with Scripture. Of course, the Power of God is intimate to our prosperity and success but if we neglect our part, isn’t happening.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Authors comment: Again, the Lord commands Joshua and us to be strong, of good courage, not to be afraid, or confused. Suppose this is important to our prosperity and success? God reassures Joshua and us that He is with us. Don’t confuse God being present with being with us in manifestation. Manifestation is directly related to meeting the qualifiers.
TAKE HOME:
- It is our responsibility to be strong and of good courage not God’s.
- It is our responsibility to not be afraid to do or be confused about God’s instructions.
- Prosperity and success come as a result of our keeping the Word of God first place in all things.
Lord willing, I will resume right here Monday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
