HAVE YOU RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST SINCE YOU BELIEVED?

Greetings to all that join us and welcome to this foundational teaching on The Kingdom of God. This was the central theme of the Ministry of Jesus in the earth, and it is now passed to us, the Church, to continue and expand. This gospel does little good confined to the Church. I’m not talking about street Ministry so much as I’m talking about our lives being a manifestation of the goodness of our God. We don’t need and the world doesn’t need to see a Church with a religious brand of what they already have.
Now let’s turn our attention to our topic and our anchor Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (AMP)
33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
Jesus has been talking about the natural things of life that all of us need, that is saint and sinner alike. Jesus says that these things will flow to us if we do the first part of the verse. Jesus is talking about us seeking first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing with all of our hearts. He knows our heart; we’re not going to pull the wool over His eyes. Now, into our next passages concerning the Kingdom of God.
In this passage we find the Apostle Paul in Ephesus which is in modern day Turkey and finds disciples who apparently believed upon Jesus. That is not perfectly clear, however, based on the next two verses. They had the water baptism of repentance which was initially of John the Baptist.
Acts 19:4-11 (KJV)
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7 And all the men were about twelve.
8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
These men are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus which could be water baptism, but I think more likely salvation. Then the Apostle Paul laid hands on them, and they were baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. For the next three months Paul taught boldly in the local synagogue. Their hearts were hardened; they would not believe and began to speak evil of him and those with him. At this point the Apostle separates from this synagogue and those associated with it taking these believers with him. A Church split of sorts except those in the synagogue were not believers. He then preached for two years in a lecture hall owned by Tyrannus. In that space of time all, Jews and Greeks, who lived in that region heard the Word concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. There were many miracles performed by the Apostle, so the people heard what the Kingdom of God and His righteousness was all about and then witnessed it in action. And so, it must be before the end.
TAKE HOME:
- It is a command that we seek first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things. For too long we have thought this meant being in Ministry, well dear ones we are all in Ministry.
- It is well past time that we and others, saint and sinner, hear about the Kingdom of God and His way of doing and see it manifest.
- Have you received the Holy Spirit with the initial manifestation of speaking in tongues? The Apostle Paul thought it was important and so did Jesus.
