RIGHTEOUSNESS IN CHRIST JESUS

Greetings and welcome back to this ongoing study of “The Kingdom of God”. Describing the Kingdom of God and how it functioned was the central theme of Jesus’ Ministry in the earth and continues today through us. He talked about how it was structured, how it functioned, the benefits to those who received this Kingdom of God life, and the benefits for those administering the Kingdom of God. Let’s move now to our anchor Scripture and then to our teaching Scripture for today.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Again, we see that it is a command from our King and Lord to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness or His way of doing. The Kingdom way of doing starts with how we think, how we talk, and how we do and live which produces wholeness in every area of life.
Romans 14:17 (ESV)
17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Once again today I want to point out that righteousness, peace, and joy are all singular in number and feminine in gender. Being singular in number means that each one of us decide the extent to which these attributes of the Kingdom operate in our lives and through our lives. This is way more than a Sunday morning thing. Being feminine in gender means that these attributes bring fruitfulness and increase (multiply) into our lives and the lives of those around us. Righteousness, peace and joy are contagious. The level of fruitfulness and increase (multiplication) in our lives is up to us and is directly related to our obedience (agape/love) to the Word of God.
I know we have been over this before but once again I believe the Lord would have me review these attributes of the Kingdom of God. These are the will of God. In these attributes there is no lack of any kind. Our God does not teach through suffering, lack of any kind. The word translated in English as “righteousness” is transliterated from the Greek, Strong’s G1343. To be righteous means one is in a condition acceptable to God. Jesus had to come and suffer making us acceptable to the Father. Remember this important verse?
1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Jesus took our sin, sins of the flesh, into His body and suffered the wrath of God that we could die to sin and live to righteousness. This brought healing to us in every way.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV)
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
By this action when we make Him our Lord the sin or our past is gone, the Father sees us as righteous just as He sees Jesus for, we are in Christ Jesus. As Jesus is today at the right hand of the Father so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). What a wonderful thing! This is not a feeling, it is a spiritual reality received and acted upon, confessed, in faith. The veil in the Tabernacle and Temple of old between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place represented sinful flesh. However, on Crucifixion Day when Satan was stripped of all he gained from Adam that veil was torn and God could come to and inhabit those who would worship Him and we could come boldly to Him (Luke 23:45, Hebrews 10:19-20). Before I end today let me finish the full meaning of righteousness. Righteousness is a walk (life) of integrity. Integrity is a conformity of thought, word, and deed. It is a life of excellence, purity (God’s purity), being right with correct of Godly thinking, feeling, speaking, and acting.
Well, we didn’t get to peace and joy, perhaps next Saturday.
TAKE HOME:
- The preeminent pursuit in our lives is to be the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
- Righteousness is being in a condition that is acceptable to God which starts with making Jesus Lord.
- Righteous living is a life of integrity, excellence, and purity.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
