A GREAT HIGH PRIEST

I have been teaching about God resting from His works when all was complete (seventh day). The provision of God when He ended His creating and making of this present heavens and earth was such that mankind could accomplish all the will of God exceedingly abundantly. That was seriously corrupted on the Day of Sin. However, God was not caught flatfooted, He (they) had a restorative and better plan. A wonderful jubilee was planned for God was determined to have a family, a people in His image and likeness. Jesus, the Lamb of God, was the plan, and once again God has rested from all His works. Jesus came expressly to destroy the works of the devil. Have we made the conscious choice that we will do all that is necessary to enter that rest or will we remain an unbelieving people with hard hearts and stiff necks? Now let’s once again review our primary text from the wonderful Book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 4:12-16 (KJV)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
It may seem like the earlier verses in this chapter have nothing to do with the latter verses especially Hebrews 4:12. Remember that Hebrews is the nineteenth book of the New Blood Covenant and nineteen is the number of faith. The number four is all about creation, authority, power, and the anointing. Finally, the number twelve is about the government of God. The exercise of our God given creative powers, authority, power, and anointing is exercised in the Kingdom of God only by faith not unbelief. We must submit to the thorough and precise examination that only the Word of God can provide and submit to the Word without reservation. This examination to uncover the truth about ourselves may expose ugly stuff but without it we remain ugly, a punching bag for the devil, and useless to the Kingdom of God.
As we proceed into Hebrews 4:13 we find that we may as well get with the program for God already knows the ugly truth and loves us anyway. Thirteen is the number of depravity and rebellion, let us decide we will not be as those who could not enter God’s rest due to unbelief. It is interesting that due to the subdivision of the tribe of Joseph into the tribe of Manasseh and Ephraim there were thirteen tribes then and to this day. The division of the tribe of Joseph forecast the depravity and rebellion the Hebrews would enter into and will persist until the Second Coming of Christ. Another tid bit you may find interesting is that there were twelve spies with no one selected from the tribe of Levi. Levi is the tribe from which the Priesthood arose, Aaron (Moses’ brother) being the first. The tribe of Levi were not among the spies or tribe leaders who rejected the Word of God but later they were the ones who rejected Jesus, the Word of God.
As we move on in our study we discover that we have a “great high priest” and His name is Jesus! Fourteen is the number of deliverance and salvation and Jesus has provided both. As our, the Christians High Priest, He is constantly interceding for us before the Father at the Mercy Seat in the presence of the Covenant and the Blood. He is also our Lawyer, our Advocate, talk about a high-power law firm. Jesus claims those as His own who claim Him as their own. Let me remind us all that the word translated as “profession” in the King James Version is the Greek word homologia according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. You can see the prefix ‘homo’ meaning same and the word ‘logia’ which derives from the word ‘word’ or building blocks. To “hold fast our profession” is to say the same thing as our High Priest, as our deliverer, as our Savior. Do we dare to listen to ourselves and see if we are saying what He says or are we trash talking?
Hebrews 4:15 makes it clear that Jesus is not an aloof High Priest or God who cannot have compassion upon us or insight into what we are experiencing. Jesus in His time on the earth both during His ministry and before experienced the same temptations that we all have, are, and will experience. All temptations are common to man even though we might think we are a special case. Fifteen is the number of rest, God’s provision. A great and wonderful part of God’s provision for us is a High Priest that was tested in every way as we are and therefore understands our feelings. Do not think for a moment that means He excuses our failures succumbing to temptation or the evil behaviors that follow. However, when we confess, say the same thing He says, we are restored. If Jesus could be faced with temptation and yet sin not then we also can do the same with the Helper (Holy Spirit). The peoples of the Old blood Covenant did not have the Holy Spirit to help them however we of the New Blood Covenant are without excuse for we have the Holy Spirit to guide into all the will of God.
