A LIVE COAL OFF THE ALTER

Greetings precious saints of God, brothers and sisters in Christ, kings and priests in the Kingdom of God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. We are currently working our way through the Book of Isaiah, a most wonderful text as is the other 65 Books of the Bible. Before we move on, please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible. Thank you for sharing. The beautiful featured picture today was graciously provided by Bob and Kathy French, friends of ours and the Ministry. I believe this picture was taken at the north end of Rangeley Lake in Rangeley Maine. As I was pondering before the Lord what I would write over the next several days as a preamble or Word from the Lord, He quickened me to a passage, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. For the sake of space and time I will continue to address only a part of the 17th verse.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Last week I spoke at some length about the first phrase ending with “in Christ” and moved briefly into being “a new creature”. Yesterday we discovered that the definition of ‘creature’ in the Greek and the definition of ‘son’ in the Hebrew are nearing synonymous. So, we can accurately say that when we are in Christ, we are a new son, a new son in the Kingdom of God. A brother of Christ Jesus. A child of God the Father, with the Holy Spirit as our Helper. Remember if you are born again, you are a son which is a son, an heir, a possessor, one who occupies enemy territory, a builder, a creator, and an owner of all things (1 Corinthians 3:21). Before I switch over to Isaiah let me give one other bone to chew on. The word ‘things’ in our text can also be interpreted as ‘words’. More to come tomorrow. Now, let’s read our text from Isaiah, yes, aloud.
Isaiah 6:5-8 (KJV)
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Not only is Isaiah given a glimpse of Heaven, into the very Throne Room of God, but becomes a part of a conversation going on between the persons of the co-equal Triune God. I have talked at some length about the importance of our thoughts and our words but it strikes me that we do not take our thoughts and words nearly serious enough. As Isaiah is viewing this scene and hears the Lord speak, He is acutely aware of the need for his mouth to be cleansed. Do you suppose our mouths could use some cleansing? One of the seraphim brings “a live coal in his hand” touches Isaiah’s mouth taking away his iniquity and sin. What was his main iniquity and sin? It was the words of his mouth! What about you and me? Notice Isaiah had to have a clean mouth before the Lord could or would send him on Kingdom business. Before I move forward, I want to remind us once again of these Words from the Master.
Matthew 15:11 (KJV)
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Have we wondered why we are not accomplishing more for the Kingdom? Or have the devils deceived us into thinking we are just barn burners, accomplishing great things, for the Kingdom of God?
For a moment, let us think about where we are and what we are witnessing. Not only was Isaiah saying wrong words, words contrary to the Word of God but he is apparently be bombarded by those around him with unclean words, words contrary to the Word of God. We are to give no place, zero, to any words contrary to the Word of God no matter the source. When God says come out from among them and be separate, He means to come out from among them and be separate (2 Corinthians 6:17). Isaiah is witnessing Jesus, the Word, the Lamb of God, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world some 700 years before He sheds all that made Him God and came as a man to take away the sins of the world. This coal of fire represents the Holy Spirit and Isaiah’s mouth is cleansed but not permanently, he must maintain the cleansing. It is no different for us. When we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, we are the ones responsible to walk holy, sanctified lives before Him. There is no mention of Blood here because the Blood of Jesus had not yet been shed but in response to Isaiah’s heart, He remitted the sins that defiled, those of the mouth (words of the mouth contrary to God).
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
