WHOM SHALL I SEND?

Greetings precious saints of God, brothers and sisters in Christ, kings and priests in the Kingdom of God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. We are currently working our way through the Book of Isaiah, a most wonderful text as is the other 65 Books of the Bible. Before we move on, please take a moment and share these teachings as widely as possible. Thank you for sharing. The beautiful featured picture today was graciously provided by Bob and Kathy French, friends of ours and the Ministry. As I was pondering before the Lord what I would write over the next several days as a preamble or Word from the Lord, He quickened me to a passage, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. For the sake of space and time I will continue to address only a part of the 17th verse.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
As you will recall I am working with the phrase “old things are passed away”. As you examine the definition from the Greek of this word ‘things’ you will see it means what was foundational or first in our lives are of the past. We have a new foundation; the priorities of the Kingdom of God have supplanted the priorities of the kingdom of this world. Another thing the Lord taught me many years ago now is that frequently when we see the word ‘thing’ we can accurately substitute the word ‘word’ in its place. This tongue and groove with our Isaiah text don’t you think? The words we used when we were in the kingdom of the god of this world are quite different (supposed to be) in the Kingdom of God. We are to talk different, very different. Our thoughts and words determine the course of our lives, all of our circumstances, even whether we go to Heaven or Hell. Words change matter (physical things) and matters (circumstances, relationships, arrangements). We can change our physical bodies with the words of our mouth. We can change our circumstances by the words of our mouth. Of course, these are words spoken in faith, motivated of love (agape), without doubt, and led of the Holy Spirit. Faith in the curse of course works as well bringing and solidifying the curse in our lives. Now, let’s turn our attention to our Isaiah text continuing to read aloud.
Isaiah 6:5-8 (KJV)
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
What a wonderful look into Heaven and right into the Throne Room of Heaven. Along with Isaiah we have become witnesses to a meeting of the Triune, co-equal God. The question being asked is “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Before we address this directly let’s drop back one verse and distinguish between iniquity and sin. As we look at these two ideas, words we will see a condition of the heart. First let’s look at a definition of iniquity. This word indicates sin that is particularly evil, since it strongly conveys the idea of twisting or perverting deliberately. This masculine noun carries along with it the idea of guilt from conscious wrongdoing according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Now, let’s look at the definition of sin. Sin is a feminine noun meaning sin, transgression, sin offering, punishment. The word denotes youthful indiscretions (Ps. 25:7); evil committed against another (Gen. 50:17); trespasses against God (2 Chr. 33:19; Ps. 51:2[4]; Amos 5:12); a general state of sinfulness (Isa. 6:7) according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. Notice that the word sin is feminine in nature conveying the idea that sin leads to more sin, reproducing itself. We get the idea that sin occurs from a blindness of the heart but iniquity is knowingly doing wrong. Now someone may know a particular sin is wrong (that is violating man’s laws) but have not consciousness that it violates God’s laws. Whereas iniquity is a conscious violation of God’s law not just mans.
Who is the voice of the Lord? It appears to be the one we now call Father, then would have been known as Jehovah. The Father is asking whom He will send (singular), who will go for us (pleural)? Isaiah does not even wait for an answer he injects himself into the conversation exclaiming “I, Here am I; send me!” Is that the cry my heart of your heart? Or instead, do we quiver in fear imagining that He might send us where we don’t want to go? Our loving (agape) Father will not send any of us anywhere He has not prepared our hearts for and provided all that we will need in abundance. Is our love for God conditional or unconditional? His love for us is unconditional. Isaiah made himself available without know anything about the assignment. Can we say the same?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
